The root cause is a bunch of overly ambitious commuter schools going FBS and diluting the brand. That's what started all of this. The formation of the SBC was a watershed event, and was bad for CFB. USM, ECU, Cincy, Houston, Memphis, and Louisville had a pretty well-established place in Division I and were at least tolerated by the traditional powers.
Once ULL, USA, GSU, Troy, UNT, etc. tried to start feeding at the trough, though, all hell broke loose. Now, instead of actually being what USM was, these clowns get to drag USM down to their level. They get a little thrill out of claiming to have climbed to our level, but really they just brought us back down to their level.
Could be the most on-point post currently on this board.
Can't blame the traditionals to want to separate.
I honestly hope that USM and Marshall get calls from the BE. Seems really unfair to their fan basses that they are going to be grouped with the new Conf configuration. These are teams that have proven themselves year after year. Would not surprise me if both schools join the BE.
I do, too, but some pretty reliable sources have said they're not looking at us.
Everyone's plan is "just run the table" so I figure 2013 will be an undefeated season for Marshall and 2014 will be USM's.

Thanks. I've reached the point where humor and honesty are basically all I have left. After Tulane got moved up, the question was "do I laugh or do I cry?"

That's pretty damn funny. "CSMBCBS" is also catchy.

No doubt. Paul Smith could do it all. And in 2005 we had Garrett Mills, a mobile TE plus Ashlan Davis, a very speedy WR. Good running backs too.
But this year's defense is better.

RE: Conference America?
I think the A-Sun might let the football BE have the TAAC (trans-america athletic conference) name , better known as the "Truly Awful Athletes Conference." LOL I think UCF might be familiar w/ that name.

This.
What have we done since joining CUSA to warrant anything? Our best years have resulted in 4-4 conference records for football and getting to the CUSA championship game in basketball last year. Those are literally the high points.
We've clearly maintained ourselves as "average" in this conference for football by 1) consistently beating the teams considered to have been 'at the bottom' and 2) struggling to beat any of the teams considered to have 'been at the top' (no wins against ucf at all, no wins at ECU, no wins against Tulsa).
More to goherd17's point, long-term success doesn't really matter anyway (see Tulane's move, Southern Miss's lack thereof).

This is what our fanbase expects. I think it's a strong possibility, assuming that our defense can get to "average" (anywhere between 70th and 90th in the country) and our offense can remain in the top 25.
I think it's really ECU's for the taking with us being the serious contenders for that spot. Year-in, year-out, I always say Southern Miss is going to be in contention, also, even after this past season.

You wont have much competition other than ECU. USM is gonna need a year or two to undue the devastation of the Ellis experiment.
Kato is sick. Next year will be a good year for the Herd.

Does LaTech lose a lot of players in addition to the head coach?

Agree. I think UAB will also improve. They may surprise some people. Not sure they will contend for title but 6+ wins may be possible.
