Yeah, maybe more guns in close proximity to children isn't the answer. I represent the lowest common denominator in this country, so there's no reason to listen to me.

I think the LCD in this country are those who actually think that further gun control will actually help. These are black swans, totally unpredictable outliers. Whatever control comes about is going to be a facade. It'll give us the warm and fuzzies until someone decides to become famous again and it is going to happen.

Yep, but maybe I should ask if anyone is for gun control if I'm ever in that position. I promise not to use my firearm to protect them. In the meantime, logic dictates that we need armed personnel that are trained in schools. Georgia's TAP program is a program that transitions military vets and retirees with degrees into becoming teachers. I'm pretty sure they know how to operate firearms.

Don't worry about Grad. He's a theorist. Emotion drives his thought process. Logic be damned. He's the type that would want a teacher prosecuted if they went out to the car to retrieve a firearm to stop this tragedy as the VP did in Pearl, Ms. In the meantime:

http://www.kgw.com/news/Clackamas-man-ar...93571.html

Quote:PORTLAND -- Nick Meli is emotionally drained. The 22-year-old was at Clackamas Town Center with a friend and her baby when a masked man opened fire.

"I heard three shots and turned and looked at Casey and said, 'are you serious?,'" he said.

The friend and baby hit the floor. Meli, who has a concealed carry permit, positioned himself behind a pillar.

"He was working on his rifle," said Meli. "He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side."

The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.

"As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them," he said.

Meli took cover inside a nearby store. He never pulled the trigger. He stands by that decision.

"I'm not beating myself up cause I didn't shoot him," said Meli. "I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself."

The gunman was dead, but not before taking two innocent lives with him and taking the innocence of everyone else.

"I don't ever want to see anyone that way ever," said Meli. "It just bothers me."

I also get a good laugh out of the fact that you righties are hailing these teachers as heroes today and wanting to put guns in their hands to be the protectors of our children, but just a few short months ago you were all busy calling them societal leeches and blaming them for all the fiscal ills of our country. I bet you'll all be glad when this shooting stuff blows over so you can go back to hating teachers again.

If teachers had guns, I suspect that homework would get turned in more often.

I'm from a teaching household. I have nothing but respect for teachers, even though I have my qualms about the system in which they operate in. I want there to be an option to have a few trained and armed teachers because I want to make sure my mother is better protected at work, along with the kids.

I wish my sister (HS English teacher) also had this option, and if not her a coworker. Schools and Universities are now Criminal Friendly Zones due to anti-conceal carry and fireman laws. Let's protect our children, not pretend taking away our rights will do anything but make it easier for criminals and lunatics to cause more death.

Most of us draw the distinction between the teachers and the teacher's unions.

But since you're stupid that would be lost on you.

Right-wing logic = yes to the right to carry deadly weapons around children, but no the right to band together for better wages and working conditions. You righties are idiots.

That would be true if unions were still just about wages and working conditions, but we know better, don't we?

See, I knew it wouldn't take long for you righties to get back to your teacher-hating ways. Damn those teachers wanting to band together to have a say in their workplace! How dare they!

Lefty logic would ensure that only criminals would carry weapons around children.

Once again you fail to see the distinction. My disdain is not with teachers, but with bloated, corrupt, thugging unions (well, and you, but that's not relavent).

I typed that slowly in hopes that you'd get it this time.

I know you're a UAB-type, so it's no wonder you can't grasp the obvious.

Lack of originality, yet another sign of a UAB-type. Still not grasping the obvious?

If by the "obvious" you mean that you're an ass who's backed into a corner because he can't grasp simple semantics and has begun hurling insults in a feeble attempt at deflection, then yeah, I'm all over it.

Please continue with your "I love teachers, but I hate teachers' unions" argument. It's highly entertaining.

Not teachers' unions in particular, but unions in general.

If that's not clear enough for you, I'll try to find some blocks to use.
