NIU and Lawrence Holmes on 670
Driving home tonight I had 670 on and they had Doeren with Holmes on. He was speaking nothing but praise about our program and J Lynch. I don't know if anyone can find it, but it was good stuff. Also mentioned how he hopes we a get a bowl game against a bigger BCS team. Lawrence has nothing but good things to say about NIU everytime. Class act.

RE: NIU and Lawrence Holmes on 670
Nothing like getting kudos from a former heavyweight champion.

Quote:Tom Tucker: "Any thoughts on the fight, Floyd?"
Floyd Wetherton: "I.I.. I think that they are they're gonna have they are gonna be be fightin', D-Deidre's last fight in the contrast to the later one, is gonna be be-better than usually."
Tom Tucker: "And how do you think this helps her chances in the fight?"
Floyd Wetherton: "Well, the match lastin' about up until the particular inaccuracy, particular unusually, that should be the ultimate determining factor in about the 12 round experience, heart of a champion, margarine hat."
Tom Tucker: "Well, we'll be watching for that. Well be checking in with you throughout the night, Floyd, and happy 23rd birthday."
Floyd Wetherton: "You're welcome."

Good listen. Always good to have some extra pub. It all adds up.

Like the way DD ends all his interviews the BIG way...."Go Huskies!".

But he said HWSNBN rebuilt it (the program). Of course he doesn't know the history as well as we do. There were a lot of good skill players but a lot of them were Novak's.

...and the dig DD gave was regarding the Line talent on both sides of the ball...DD said he had to plug in those holes.

Yes, Coack Kill recruited talented skill players and I give him credit, as the skill position players have often been spectacular.

There's no doubt that Kill recruited some good players. Were some of his guys busts, yes. But every coach is gonna have some busts when it comes to recruiting. That's not what people should look down on him about and if they are, they're looking in the wrong place.

It's been said many times before on this board, sometimes by myself. The thing that ultimately crushed Kill's legacy here forever was the fact that he couldn't win the MAC with perhaps the best NIU team of all time in 2010 against a Miami team that inferior to us in every phase of the game except perhaps special teams.

But back on topic, Laurence Holmes is probably the best friend NIU has on the Score in terms of getting mentioned on air. It'll be interesting to see if he tries to get Lynch on later this year if NIU keeps winning.

It's certainly nice to have somebody on the Score pay attention to the Huskies. We're not really used to that.

Chicago has and will always be a pro sports town. The professional sports teams are gonna gobble up most of the air time no matter how bad they are. And whatever time the day shows (whether it's Mully & Hanley, Mac & Spiegs, Boers and Bernstein) devote to college sports is gonna be predominantly Big Ten because that's where the biggest listening audience is. So in terms of air time it is what it is.

At least we get some airtime on The Score. I don't know if I've ever heard NIU mentioned except in passing on 1000.

That's what I mean - it's unusual, and appreciated.

That changes none of the complaints we had about the guy.. if you can go back in a time machine and make him good at personnel decisions and time management, let me know. Otherwise nothing has changed.

Kill's a good guy, incredible work ethic, ran a clean program by all accounts, represented the school well, bad in game coach, struggles with clock mgmt., and terrible job judging his own personnel. These comments from DD don't change any of that.

"That said"---- Kill should not then have much success coaching UM in BT...we shall see what his future holds at a school not known for much football success the past four decades...

Guess the dialogue start here: Purdue @ MN this Saturday. Both teams seeking first BT win of the season.

If he and his assistants had themselves and the team properly prepared and not "wet the bed" in Detroit, we'd be gunning for our 3rd straight MACC and I would look at his tenure and departure in a much different light.

So would everyone else. But it didn't happen that way.

This revisionist history just isn't true. People were complaining about Kill the entire time he was here, on this very board. It's not hard to find evidence of this. He would have been winning in spite of himself, he had an obvious talent advantage. Winning when it mattered would have made it more palatable, sure, but it's not like people wouldn't have been bitching about his obvious mistakes as a coach.

You have to separate the result from the process.
