Billy Graham group removes Mormonism from list of cults
http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-j...m_galloway
First of all, let me say that I don't believe the Mormon religion should be considered a religious cult. I'm not sure if many religions period should be called a cult (although perhaps a few do fall into that category). I just thought the timing on this was rather odd.
Secondly, Billy Graham in this picture looks like a ghost. Holy cow - God Bless him but he can't be doing very well, health wise.

RE: Billy Graham group removes Mormonism from list of cults
Evangelicals have been calling the LDS cultists forever. Interesting that they remove them from the list right as Romney is running for president.

I already posted this. Romney promised to attack Alderaan.

Mormonism definitely began as a cult, led by a fraud (court records show he was charged, but it's not clear if he was ever convicted) who made claims proven to be ridiculous. The "Book of Abraham" was "interpreted" from a common Ancient Egyptian funeral document Joseph Smith bought from a traveling Egyptian circus.

RE: Billy Graham group removes Mormonism from list of cults
I think that this is simply Franklin Graham trying to help Mitt Romney, politically. I don't care if they remove Mormonism from a list of cults, but I seriously question the motivation of the timing.
I think there are true believers on the religious right who are sincere in their beliefs and are not hateful towards other people.
Unfortunately, Franklin Graham appears to be a politically motivated, crass hater with hidden, if existant, redeemable qualities. So long as he is running the shop over at Billy Graham Ministries, I question the motivations of that group, whether its' extremist hatred towards Gays or Muslims or other groups.

RE: Billy Graham group removes Mormonism from list of cults
I heard a long time ago that it was virtually impossible to give a definition of a cult that was different from the definitionof a church.
But, I do think Billy Graham's organization is being less than honorable by waffling on this.
On a side note, I actually thinkthat some of the LDS Biblical interpretations that are dismissed by "orthodox" Christians are quite legitimate.

I could care less if its a "cult" or not but any move which allows it to try and claim to be Christian is foolish.

No.. They are not. Were they the LDS would not have had to make up a book and inject new material into some biblical books (whole new versus that don't appear anywhere before smith) in order to make their warped theology work.

He'll be too busy calling the DNC telling them to challenge the hanging chads or something.

Sad to say, but Billy Graham seems very close to death. From the 1940s to the 1990s, very few people did more to spread the Good News -- and to do so effectively -- than he. In 1957 he held a "crusade" in New York City. It was intended to last a week or so, but the public response was so overwhelmingly positive that it was continued for about 3 months. Major venues like Yankee Stadium and Madison Sq Garden were packed, night after night. I don't think there was any other American Christian minister (possible exception: Fulton Sheen) of that generation (or this one) who could have elicited that kind of response.
I have listened to a few people -- including a couple of ex-Mormons -- hold forth about the ways LDS is a "cult." I have to admit I have never quite got their point, but it is very clear to me that LDS is not a branch of Christianity but something different from it and apart from it.
It has been interesting to watch the pro-Obama elements in the media and online try to use Romney's religion against him, without being too grossly overt and obvious about it. That is a difficult line to walk, but they've done it about as well as they possibly could have. The trick is to have a few people like Bill Maher who will do the really dirty work, and then others who will follow after him, but saying it more politely. (I readily admit that many anti-Obama people have tried to play the same game with Obama's religious views, and with his birth-certificate. Key difference, politically, is that the anti-Romney people are in a much more powerful position in the media. Obama and his wife never have to worry that they will be asked the kind of "question" that Whoopi Goldberg "asked" Ann Romney, for example.)

Probably because Obama's children (while still too young to serve anyway) haven't chosen not to serve, or dodged the war like their father, and then said they wanted to go punch a sitting president.
******* cowards.

This man is not representative of evangelical Christians, obviously. Sacrificing his values and his faith to cozy up to Romney is disgusting. Pray for him...

Obama never called Romney a liar. If anyone came closest to calling the other a liar, it's Romney made a big show about Obama's claim he called the Benghazi attack an "act of terror" in the Rose Garden the next day. Of course that blew up in his face so he stopped.

""what Gov. Romney said just isn't true.""
If I say something and you say it's not true, in an atmosphere where your campaign has been calling me a lair for weeks? Thats calling someone a liar max.
It would be like telling some guy his wife sleeps around a lot with other men. When he punches you for calling his wife a slut you retort "I never said that"...
