I've been in a lot of gyms over the years. You can go in most any high school gym,(undoubtedly some colleges)where a school has won a championship(primarily state)and you'll most likely see a championship banner with the team's record on it. That is, those that had a very good record. I don't recall seeing any with a losing record on a banner. There probably have been some, like some Trojan fans, that pride themselves in hanging a hanging, even with a team that has an overall losing record. I guess you could put 12-4 on it, and if people didn't know about the other part of the schedule, it would look good.
Just a thought, since some here are so big on hanging banners, we could have one made as City Champs, with the 1-0 record printed on it, for beating Philander Smith. Maybe we could schedule Arkansas Baptist College and if we could beat them, we could put 2-0 on the banner.
Some of this post was "tongue in cheek" Jim, most was fact. Ask a stupid question, and you'll get a stupid answer.
Seriously, though, Bob. Can you name a single specific arena where banners are hung with the records on them? If I am reading Pappy's post right, Charleston does it. I've been to a lot of arenas and gyms and never seen that. Never been to Charleston, however.

I've never thought about it, but can't recall seeing records on banners. If one would have it, it would be the undefeated 1976 Indiana team. I guess we can assume from your post, that the banner didn't include their record.

In my 68 years, I've been in hundreds of gym, and no, I can't think of a "specific gym" that has banners with their record on them. I'll leave that to you to see if you can find one. If you don't want to believe that they do exist, I don't give a ****.

I haven't been to Assembly Hall since I graduated i 1974, but they had some national championship banners hanging there then and none of them had any records on them. Haven't you been to North Carolina and Kansas? No records on the banners there?

I've been to the Dean Dome and Phogg Allen. I don't believe they had records on the banners, but I wouldn't swear to it at this point. Really never thought about it before.

No. That settles it as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for your honesty.

That's an interesting question. I can't remember seeing any college teams with records on their banners. However, I have seen plenty of high school team gyms that have records on their banners. On another note, I've been to Pauley Pavilion (UCLA) a few times and they only hang national championship banners. There are no conference championship banners, semifinal, runner up, etc. hung up. That includes their volleyball, and women's basketball teams. I wonder if Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke are the same way.

Relative prosperity, I would assume.
