Old vs New Dec 22nd MSG
Syracuse vs Temple in the Gotham City Classic...This should give nBE fans a feel for how Temple fans will fill MSG in the future. I'm predicting 12 to 1 Orange.

RE: Old vs New Dec 22nd MSG
Once the post-Boeheim Syracuse becomes just another mid-card ACC team behind Duke and Carolina, the annual December MSG game with St. John's will serve as a look back to the good times to have passed.

Meanwhile, the Hoyas and Orangemen will meet up every 10 years or so in some NCAA third round regional in Tucson.

Who says we're playing them every year? We already have a yearly ACC team on the schedule in Duke.

Whats the upside for us playing them? I mean I know what THEY get out of it, but what do we get?

You get the chance not to embarrass yourselves on an annual basis in your own city. A chance to show that SJU can fill half of MSG with Redmen fans.

I guess Georgetown knows how that feels as your team has become a mid-card BE team behind Cuse, UConn and Louisville.

DFW HOYA I heard Cuse and G-Town will be playing every year after the migration. Have you guys heard anything on your end?

Georgetown will probably play Maryland before it schedules Syracuse annually. The Orangemen aren't leaving the Empire State in the month of December, they aren't giving up home games to play in Washington, and like many conference exits and/or new coaching regimes, there will be institutional pressure to move forward and not look back.

Georgetown and Boston College met annually in basketball since the late 1950's (even further back in football) and there's been no effort made for these schools to play again. Same for Virginia Tech, whose fan base could sell a lot of tickets in DC. Not happening.

I heard at one point that the Duke series was not being renewed. That was at Duke's request. Has that changed.

I tend to see Cuse/Georgetown as a big intersectional on CBS/ABC or ESPN in Jan or Feb. Boeheim will do 1 or 2 select big TV games. The ratings would be good and from Cuse's POV it helps our marketing strategy. If G-Town sez no...they'll ask Nova, Temple or GMU down that way for games.

You're assuming it's Boeheim. Methinks Hopkins goes in a different direction.

Why? Hopkins knows our recruits come from I-95 not SoCal.

And once again, why would we invite a fan base like this to the Garden? We'll continue to play the real ACC powerhouse...Duke.

Once SU is in the ACC...

SU and G'Town will play annually, alternating between DC and the Dome. Book it.

SU will also play at least one game annually at MSG alternating opponents each year.

And, yes, this SU fan will look back and remember the glory days of old of the Big East from the 80s (but not the 90s or early 00s when the league was basically UConn, SU, and G'Town) and the zenith of Big East bb with the NBE with seven different programs making the Elite 8.

Cheers,
Neil

Duke uses the series to recruit NYC.

We won't need the Johnnies to play in MSG. They want us to play there every year. Heck, if we were physically as close to MSG as St. John's, they would want us to play EVERY home game there, unlike St. John's who they only want there when they play a big-time opponent.

Cheers,
Neil

Butt hurt aside...you don't think SJU wants an arena full of fans on national TV? Pretty simple stuff here...Cuse and SJU will continue to play and I bet it becomes an annual game at MSG.

I love how Cuse fans think they will get everything they want when they move.

I love how some bb school fans don't recognize the reality that exists today.

As I've pointed out in the past, of the 12 regular season games the Orange have played at MSG recently, only 4 of them were against St. John's. If the Red Storm were so crucial to us being at MSG, then why is that the case?

Cheers,
Neil
