RE: Football Expectations
The biggest problem with MT in 2011 was the wheel's fell off when we lost a few tight games(three of our first four losses were by a field goal and decided on the final drive or OT) and then after a blowout in Lafayette we just never got it together again. It wasn't a lack of talent, it was a lack of character, the team definitely quit somewhere along the line.
Which is why I love how our schedule lines up in 2012, we have a real shot at starting out 3-0 with McNeese, FAU, @Memphis to start the season, avoid a catastrophe the following week at GT and we have a lynchpin game against ULM that could get us to 4-1 headed to Miami and I think our odds of beating FIU are much higher if we go down there riding high at 4-1.
In order for us to have a successful season it's likely we'll have to go 4-0 against McNeese, FAU, Memphis and South Alabama and I think that's definitely achievable.
The tricky part after that will be going no worse than 2-3 against ULM, FIU, UNT, WKU and Troy which is not necessarily asking for the moon, but(provided we can go 4-0 against McNeese, FAU, Memphis and South) those are the four games that will determine whether we're in the bottom third, middle third, or top third of the conference next year.
I do not see us winning in Atlanta, Starkville, or Jonesboro.
I think we should be able to find four wins on this schedule and while I think there are only three games on the schedule that I cannot see us winning, I also can't see us going 5-0 against ULM, FIU, UNT, WKU and Troy, so I'll say that with a bit of luck and exceeding expectations we could win 8.
Having said all that, if we don't come out of the gate 3-0, the season is likely over right then and there.
