What?

Like the TV media cares about a non-killing related story involving NIU?

Maybe the Rockford stations will mention it but that would be it.

We're talking about the hiring of an assistant football coach. Come on. That's not exactly newsworthy on the slowest of days. No matter how local he is, coordinator or not. You don't see news trucks hustling to Champaign to meet the new coordinators there either. See the coverage of Friz's hiring.

Local boy makes good, gets promotion, comes back home. There's a human-element story there. PR Dept. needs to start doing some actual PR.

Pj made good impressions and built friendships with Kaplan and Waddle to name a few. With the proliferation of sports talk shows, the hiring will get some coverage - e.g., CLTV, Comcast Sportstalk, ESPN1000 etc.

Same elements to Friz's story. It doesn't matter. It's not a story anyone's going to spend TV time on.

The hiring of an assistant coach rates a mention at the tale of the sports cast where Jim Rose mispronounces the guy's name. Doesn't matter who you are.

I'm sure Fred Mitchell and someone from the Herald will bite, and there will be a nice couple stories we get to coo over though.

A rodent gets TV time this time of year. It can be had if the work is put in to acquire it.

The Akron hire of Tressel got air-time on ESPN 1000 and I'm sure it will get some TV mention.

Why can't a local college football hire of a local "hero" get some attention?

Because we do it the hard way. Hiring Tressel is an easy way out for Akron.

Count yourself lucky. We don't have a big university that dominates us to the point where we need to hire their losers to help them redeem their reputations.

Akron hiring Tressel and Lloyd Carr being a part of the search committee at EMU for their last coaching search (where he found Ron English, his old DC) shows how much those schools can't even forge their own identity among their own people. We're light years ahead of that, no matter how much we may be frustrated by getting ignored.

At least nobody will be looking at Ron Turner, or Ron Zook, or Lou Tepper for our next head coach.

What a joke.

Hey, if we have another great season, PJ could be the HC and Turner the OC. He has head coaching experience and could be kinda a mentor.

Wait, his bio says he ran his first marathon in April.

When does he have time to train for that?

I don't think that's been updated from 2008.

Says he's 28 and born in 1980.

You can always count on Fred Mitchell.

Good catch on the bio HnP, didn't even notice that they just pulled up his old bio page without updating it. Thought it was weird there was nothing about Rutgers.
