what an unlucky game ...
that is wshat i kept thinking...
the ball never bounced our way....we never seemed to get a break....they did everything including a fake punt and a fourth down TD to try and take it from us....most of the penalties seemed questionable...and then we got one in our favor at the end)
My stomach, my heart and my marriage barely survived tonight (and lets not discuss my liver)

Defense really only gave up 24 points. Considering the stupid personal foul penalties, they did pretty good otherwise.

Unlucky??? Did you watch the same game I did? We got a GIFT from the ref with that roughing call - I'm not complaining about bad reffing the rest of the year (ok, the rest of the week) with that one. Plus that stupid decision to pooch kick it at the end of the game should have at least caused us to go to OT. WE were the lucky ones.

When I used to live in CT, I flew out of there a few times and on 2 occasions, I saw the SAME guy and both times he was wearing a Ball State shirt. I often wonder if it was David Letterman since he lives in CT. THe guy was tall like Letterman but given that I had not watched the show that much while living out there and without makeup, I wasn't sure.
I am so happy we pulled it out. I was at work so I missed the game but it sounds like it was an exciting game. One more to go in the regular season. Then on to the MACC!

Unlucky in that we should have been beating these guys by 30....the harnish fumble...the fumbles that we didnt get on...the interceptions that we just couldnt quite pull down...the face we rushed inside the exact same time they called a fake punt to the outside....the few passes just dropped...the fact that we had 711 yard to their 350 and we were still tied

If you count all of those things every team is unlucky every game.

With all the talk about luck, remember how extremely lucky we have been this year. Buffalo missing the PAT, getting the Ball State INT touchdown return nullified, reversals of calls that went against us. And the schedule, with us playing the final two games at home — that may be the luckiest thing of all.
Hey, every good team needs a little luck. And we've had our share this year, thank goodness.
Harnish is beyond belief. Makes a mistake such as that fumble, but comes back and plays great. And he broke Bork's career TD pass record. On Senior Day, let's give him the longest standing ovation Huskie Stadium has ever seen!
Lastly, I've had my heart broken at least three times on last-second football losses to Ball State. SOOOO happy to see one go our way. Now let's beat EMU and exorcise a few ghosts in the house of horrors otherwise known as Ford Field.

I thought it wasn't roughing at the game, but I thought it was definitely roughing after seeing the replay. Just thankful for a win tonight, way too many mistakes. Fortunately, we're cleaning them up with the MAC still in our hands.

Quote of the night from the BSU message board:
The one time we tackle a NIU player we get a roughing the passer call.
I guess the ref was so surprised a BSU player tackled one of our players, he had to throw a flag.
That post was quickly followed by another:
Agreed. Im pissed. I was hoping for a little celebration tonight with the wife after the game. It's turned into a cold shower.

We may be a little lucky so far this year but we were VERY unlucky in the MACC with that 4th down and long tipped pass at the end. And even today, those fumbles, tipped passes, etc., that never seemed to fall where our players were. It was like that in previous games too.

Delegal with three personal foul penalties. There is no excuse for that. If I was Doeren, I would have benched him after his second personal foul.

I think the last few drives which bore witness to a "should be" pick 6, another pick, and throwing behind receivers wore on Chandler's psyche, as I think he lost a bit of confidence in his arm. To me, he appeared very hesitant to throw. Thank the maker that he didn't lose confidence in his legs.
Now let’s take the gift from the stripes, get rested, come out fresh and disciplined. The sloppiness exhibited by the team was very uncharacteristic. Let's roll EMU.
He was tight -- when he was in the pocket with guys in his face-- which was a lot. Not sure why Canada had him throwing from the pocket so much in this game. On third and 6 or 8 on the goal line at the end he had Chandler standing like a statute to throw (he threw to the end zone incomplete). Also, BSU defended the option well, and we didn't run it well. We need to consider putting the option on the shelf, or spend more time on getting it right. I'm not sure with all the other weapons we have that we need to spend more time on it.
Anyway, nice win. Players bailed coaches out, and coaches bailed players out.
I could see the Ball State fake punt that almost killed us coming. BSU trotted out with no offensive linemen. They had out guys with numbers like 41, and 23 and the like as their O-line. I was just saying, what the hell? When they snapped it and ran the fake. I wish someone smarter than me would have seen that and called a time out. DD said after the game that they BSU had done that before. So, if that's the case, the coaches blew it in not having the guys prepared. But like I said, the players bailed out the coaches. These guys are all learning together.
Go Huskies!

I think it may have been 4. He needs his a$$ kicked. Truly.
He should be benched for the EMU game.
Absolutely yes.
Thought of you during the game - I myself felt like I couldn't take many more games like this, so I wondered if you had laid in a good supply of nitroglycerin tablets. Hoping I don't need any for the EMU game.
What the hell, Delegal is a senior, what was he thinking?
I'm curious what happened on that pass play that Harnish threw behind the receiver, think it was Daron Brown. Did Harnish think he was going to sit down in the open area instead of continuing the route to the middle of the field? He was wide open.
Yea...it was a very rough game for me. So I knew you'd be in the same boat, 007. I was literally on my knees begging & praying for Sims to get that final fg thru the uprights.
I did actually have to take a muscle relaxant to sleep last night. My neck and shoulders were in a friggin vise. I was afraid I'd wake up this morning and not be able to move my head!

Excellent post BeachBoy! Harnish deserves a parade for his contribution to Huskie football. I seriously doubt we will ever witness another QB like him in my lifetime...20 years maybe?
We were able to exorcise the UT demon.... you're right, time to exorcise the Ford Field demon. GO HUSKIES!!!

I think he would have, but we were fresh out of linebackers. Delegal is TERRIBLE, and not just with the penalties. The play after his first personal foul he blew a coverage on the next play.
It's kind of amazing what we've been able to do with the lack of talent we have on defense. It's fun to watch Melvin be left on an island for 80% of the game.
