I amazes me the ignorance of the left when it comes to tax reform. They have focused their attention at soaking the rich and corporations by putting on these nonsensical OWS protests... instead of actually looking into a system that would help the poor and middle class the most...a consumption tax.

Go ask anyone if they would like to see the amount withheld from their paychecks return into their pockets? Go ask the poor could they use a monthly prebate check to help cover expenses? I doubt you would find anyone that would object to either of these things.

A consumption tax is the ONLY proposal that totally untaxes the poor. If liberals really cared about the poor in America, they should be down at the Capital demanding this type of tax reform instead of wasting their time and efforts in these OWS protests.

The fact that the leadership of the left never mentions tax reform other than in context of soaking the rich....is proof that they really do not care one bit about the poor. They just simply hate the rich.

They care about buying their votes.

Well..yes...but..this current system is being used by both sides to do that. The system itself must be reformed to stop it.

Rich liberals don't wan't to pay a $180,000 flat tax (9% as per Cain) when buying a $2,000,000 boat.

I'm no longer amazed. I'm disgusted, b/c their premise is envy, not concern for anybody.

Hey, Dr. Torch, we agree on something. That's exactly what it is. They want what the wealthy have, they just don't want to have to earn it.

What disgusts me is that neither side is seriously talking about tax reform of this nature. I honestly believe it will take a serious grassroots effort nation wide including mass protest and civil disobedience to make these thieves in Washington make any changes. I applaud Cain for pushing this agenda.

Broader safety net supported by lower and flatter tax rates applied to a broader tax base, including consumption. That's how Europe does it. You'd think the left would be falling all over themselves to imitate the European socialists. Wouldn't you?

Give them time - they're currently in the "Socialism For All, Riches For None" stage.

Liberal Here.....................

Definetly don't have any envy whatsoever. Matter of fact I would like to make it simpler and and close loopholes. Our tax code is like closing Pandoras box though. I don't know how you get rid of the home mortgage deduction. Also the tax breaks are bought commodities. Your not going to pry that power away from either side. It's much too simplistic to stand on one side and demonize the other. One day we will wake up and drain the swamp. It has to be bi partisan. You could set up brackets on the 9 9 9 plan. I understand the rights argument of skin in the game. The right has to understand that 50% of taxpayers own 2% of the wealth. The top 1% 80% of the wealth. The rest of us are fighting for the scraps.

I live a safe, secure, happy and resonably well off life. I am financially secure with little debt outside of a mortgage and one car payment. I have a (declining for now, eh...) 401k, a pension and a college investment fund for my son. My wife has similar investments, and she is a teacher. We have a savings account that will last a couple months, etc etc. You get the drift.

Yet I am in no way shape or form remotely close to the "1%" so vilified. Not much closer to the "2%" either.

But how is that "scraps?" Seriously! This idea that anyone with some financial security is some sort of monacled fat cats dressed like Mr. Moneypants from Monopoly is ridiculous. I'm pretty damn proud what I have accomplished in my life. The only monacle I own is a pair of broken glasses.

These days it's the worst of all sins to hate someone for their race, but yet it's perfectly acceptable to hate them for what they have. Please don't fall into that class warfare crap.

Can you stop using terms like that? I wonder if my friends/coworkers who consider themselves to be broke, would define their iphones (3 ppl in the office who claim to be broke have the newest iphone and the other, who has plenty of student loans, has the last iteration), nice TV's and Netflix subscriptions to be "scraps." I have a 42in tv, a nice laptop, a top of the line android phone and plenty of food. Maybe our definitions of "scraps," are different.

I think the left believes that living a life anything less than the life of a millionaire is akin to torture but they care nothing about how illegals break their backs for $5.00 per hour and live 50 to a house yet claim to be their champions.

Agree on others "scraps" comment, which just sort of screams envy, but the REASON the rich are so wealthy and the poor are so poor is that the rich don't generate what we tax... Income. They pass that burden to their accountants and lawyers and customers and employees who DO pay it, who are pissed because the poor want more and the government says they can't get more for less... Which they don't believe because they've tightened their own belts... Meanwhile the rich AND the politicians just laugh as everyone between the poor and whatever defines truly wealthy gets screwed.
