RE: UC vs Rutgers Game Thread
1) i thought Killa and Dixon both got a little greedy on offense. When Killa isn't hitting on offense, he's got to figure out another way to contribute on offense (no need to comment on his defensive lapses). Dixon helped seal the game and had two timely treys, but he was awful for most of the game. in that same vein, if he isn't hitting, he's got to contribute in other ways. Especially when MC uses Dixon to spell Cash. in those cases he's got to run the offense, ugly as it may be, instead of pounding the rock up top for 15-20 secs.

2) We need to figure out how to be better at entry passes into the post. Granted, Gates could really help that by learning to seal more effectively, but when there is that 1.5-2 secs where Gates does have a seal the ball has to get to his hands. That being said, it's not just the passers, it's yancy needing to set up a passing lane. i don't think he knows where he is when his back is to the basket.

3) in another thread i wrote that NOVA is probably going to fade a little due to lack of depth. Our depth is going to be a major asset against teams that rely excessively on their starting 5 and will help us tremendously against the bottom 8 B.East teams. That's one of my biggest gripes about the ND game. i don't feel like we used our depth to our advantage as much as we had against lesser teams because we we're threatened by ND's ability to score the ball. We can't let that happen again if for no other reason than the fact that we lose all our depth after this season.

Out of the remaining 10 games, I'd say UC has a reasonable expectation of winning 4 (WVU, Depaul, St. John's and Providence). WVU would be one of those. They need that win badly.

Does that mean you don't think there's a reasonable expectation to beat UL, UConn, and Georgetown at home? And if so why?

Cincy is now 18-3.

18-3!

They swept this same UConn team last year. Georgetown is marginal this year. What have they proven in conference? Same with UL. They just lost to Providence at home. They lost to Drexel at home.

I'm not predicting it. But don't look now. Cincy is in the Big East title hunt!

The top of the BE is currentlyi n the process of losing to the bottom of the league. Something Cincy has yet to do.

Maybe I'll come on down to the arena for my 4th game of the year. If I didn't have a newborn, it'd be a lot easier to get the hall pass

Man up. Aggressively take a hall pass and pay the consequences later... You can sleep on my couch.

(ps: don't tell the wives I said any if this...). 03-wink

No penetration, and as Mark pointed out, nobody seems to understand how to get an entry pass. Part of that is Gates not getting open. Part of it is nobody can dribble-drive and dish.

chuck said cash made some great passes tonight for assists. He didnt shoot hardly at all. Thats ok, when someone else is picking up the slack. Makes for a good team.

I totally agree with the last 2/3 of your post, but I must have missed those good passes Cash made.

Said it earlier, at least when we were on offense Cash and Dixon were awful. They don't handle ball pressure and tight coverage with help well.

BTW, thanks to Bishop i am only one away from my preseason prediction that this team would have 6 different players score 20 in a game this year. 5 down. One to go.

With Cash with a season high of 18, you're awfully close.

RE: UC vs Rutgers Game Thread
how ironic....I said early in this thread Bishop and Dixon have to get it going....they did. They were the top two scorers for the game for the Cats!

Dixon had 4 turnovers so not happy about that but he did grab 4rebounds and hit his FT's.....not a great game for him but in the end he stepped it up.

This was easily Bishops best game.....maybe ever

On a side note, I'm not sure I've seen any Big East coach chew into his players more than Mike Rice does, including Cronin or Huggs. I'm not sure how he keeps that up every game if he does.

Bishop does so much better when he doesn't just stand on the perimeter and jack up (and miss most of them) three point attempts.

Hopefully he keeps this up - UC could use it over the remainder of the year.

That was one of the best outlet passes I've seen from a UC rebounder in years. His catch-and-dish pass to Davis at the end of the first half at St. Johns was perfectly executed as well.

Biggie is showing me he has more game than just being big.

I also saw him representing the team all alone at center court with three Rutgers players and officials before the start of the game.

Agree on the outlet pass. Fantastic pass from Biggie. No hesitation and laid it out perfectly for Bishop. He has definitely impressed me this year.

We can't let that happen again if for no other reason than the fact that we lose all our depth after this season.

I said as much on the ND thread and a couple of posters ripped me to shreds.

I felt the coaching and game plan for the ND game were terrible. But you never know if the players are implementing the game plan or not. But still, that's on the coaching staff.

The previous two ND games, their opponents wore them down with depth, pressing and a fast pace, and beat ND. UC allowed ND to set the tempo at a moderate pace, keep their shooting legs, avoid foul trouble, etc.........and it played right into ND's hands.

Agree with you. We have to use our 10 man depth to wear down opponents. And as the season goes on, opposing teams that lack depth will have tired starters.

I've also been asking where's Bishop? He showed up last night. We need him to be a threat. But we don't need him jacking ONLY 3's up. He has to attack the basket too.

Dixon needs to find his shot again and start finishing when he attacks the basket. The guy has a knack for getting to the rim, and he can jump with the big boys........extremely athletic with good hops. Amazes me sometimes when he dunks the ball.

Not sure what is up with Cash. Good to see him taking better care of the ball. But he still continues to be just okay and not that impressive. Any quality true PG in the country could come in and possibly do better than he is. If Guyn is the real deal, Wright will be looking over his shoulder next year.

I was not a Robert Whaley fan at all. I thought he was the epitome of lazy.

But the best play I ever saw him make was a one hop full court pass to another player for a layup. One of the best passes I've ever seen at that distance.

I'm very impressed with Mike Rice.

Since joining the Big East, I've counted on Rutgers to sit at the bottom of the standings and be that yearly bottomfeeder. All I could think of last night is that this guy knows how to coach and gets alot of effort out of his players. Then they showed a quality recruiting class coming in for Rutgers next year, and all I kept thinking is "great, now we'll have to battle Rutgers too! Ugh."

They will be moving up in the next few years. Keep an eye on them. I think they've found their quality coach.

I know the feeling. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 6 month old at home. It makes it tough to get out to games (Plus if me and the wife both go, it makes for a very expensive night once you pay a sitter). I actually had hoped to make it down to 2 games the entire year, but things have fallen just right and I have made it to 3 thus far, with 3 more game tickets in hand. Next year maybe I can really butter up the wife and find a way to get basketball season tickets too.
