I drove over that bridge 4 times that day.

Former Tiger QB/TE - Bill Austin died in the collapse.

That's a good one Tip, I've been thrown in and out of there.

If it wasn't the original one, it doesn't count.
It was the original one. Solomon Alfreds had some dang good concerts also. Savoy Brown, Dickey Betts. I can't remember what it was before Solomon Alfreds. I sold them Meat products back in the day.

I love the Old Clubhouse at Overton. I played in those junior tournaments for many years. At one time it was the largest kids golf tournament in the world. Great memories of that place.

I knew him, and his Dad who was a starter at Audubon for many years. Knew his sister also. It was a sad day. I think about that every time I cross that bridge.

Correct. They had supposedly the car from the Bonnie and Clyde movie in there.

My parents still live near Perkins and Mallory about two blocks from the bridge. My sister worked at a place on the corner of Perkins and American Way called Rueben's/CoCo's. She drove across that bridge minutes before it collapsed. All the business's around Perkins and American Way closed due to no traffic except Shoney's which later closed. American Way wasn't complete but they expedited the work due to the collapse.

I also dated a gal (we often went to Solomon Alfred's) whose father developed the Mall of Memphis and was sued because they excavated the river bed. He died of a heart attack prior to learning the cause was timber building up at the bridge causing an undercurrent that washed away the footings and not his fault.

Loved Erika's, I did some business with them, back in the day. When I lived in Sherwood Forest, we ate takeout from Berrettas way too much. Went to the Olympics in Los Angeles, we were gone for two weeks. Got back to Memphis, called them up to order. They asked if we had been out of town. They were worried about us.

That looks like a new version of an old favorite. The hamburgers at the one in Whitehaven were named after colonial war hero's.
