There’s a lot of that going around. Main reason why I post less than before…

And there seems to be a lot of *that* going around, too, LOL.
In 1970, the median age of all people living in the U.S. was ~28 years. Today it’s ~39-40 years, and still going up. It will probably reach 56-58 years within the lifetime of kids being born today, if the birthrate stays in the 1.5 range that we have now. It’s easy to say “so what?” when you don’t have to live that reality day-by-day, but I believe — when it happens — we will be in a whole new dimension of holyshit-what-are-we-going-to-do-now? I’m thankful that I probably won’t be around to witness it.

Notice how normal so many world leaders sound?
They talk about making things better for people. They have policy ideas to improve things. They are acquainted with words like “democracy” and “climate.”
They sound like adults.

World leaders have hailed the victory of Lula in Sunday's presidential election runoff.
EU Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen:
"Democracy and multilateralism have won in Brazil. Europe's partnership with Brazil is thriving. We will remain by your side for the years to come. Together we will keep working closely for free and open trade. A rules-based global order. And strong ambitions for our climate."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi:
"I look forward to working closely with him to further deepen and expand the multifaceted India-Brazil Strategic Partnership. Together, we will continue to strengthen our cooperation across diverse sectors, advance the shared priorities of the Global South and work towards a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable world."
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa:
"This victory will echo beyond the shores of Brazil. It is a victory for the Global South and progressive forces throughout the world."
French President Emmanuel Macron:
"France and Brazil have much to build together. In the face of the great challenges of our time, let us strengthen our strategic partnership and keep the friendship between our two countries alive in the service of a more just world."
Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky:
"We thank Brazil for its unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We look forward to expanding our cooperation and congratulate President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on his remarkable election results."
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney:
"The relationship between Canada and Brazil has flourished under our partnership. Let’s seize this opportunity to make it even stronger, together — to create major new trade opportunities, protect the environment, and build greater prosperity for both our peoples."
Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori:
"I congratulate President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ... and salute the Brazilian people for this democratic day."
Ecuadorean President Daniel Noboa:
"Our region has common enemies, shared challenges, and much to gain when we work together."
Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast:
"I just spoke with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Chile and Brazil have a lot of shared future ahead, and we will continue working on an agenda that strengthens relations between our countries in economic integration and the fight against organized crime in the region."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum: "Long live democracy. The people of Brazil won."
Paraguayan President Santiago Pena:
"Paraguay and Brazil share a common agenda of integration and development. We will continue working together for the well-being of our people."
Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi:
"I just spoke with the president-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a friend. I congratulated him on the victory and on the democratic celebration that an electoral process represents."
Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz:
"Bolivia and Brazil are neighboring and brother countries, united by a shared history and common challenges. We will continue working together to strengthen our relationship and generate more opportunities for our nations."
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel:
"... This historic victory ensures the continuity of the path of peace, sovereignty, and social justice embarked upon by the Brazilian people under your leadership."
Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino:
"I congratulate the Brazilian people for this democratic day and especially President Lula for the victory! We will continue working together for our countries."

And Lula's request was approved by Brazilian judges, but Bolosaro made the same request to the same judges and got denied. Again, fraudulent election. And if I were Bolosaro, I'd tell the Brazilian government to "try and stop me" from leaving the country.

Aparently, bolosaro asked for two regions hit with flooding to stay open. Lula wanted the whole country to stay open.....just because, even though the Brazilian system does not allow it. End result, most areas stayed closed, but the regions that Lula has his base stayed open. Funny how the protect democracy party does that.

So the election is dubious and therefore fraudulent. Not surprised.

Idiot. Imagine someone so dense that they think stealing elections to continue an oppressive government is a good thing and then calling for the arrest of your candidates' primary opponent is democratic. I believe they call that cutting off one's nose to spite oneself.

If I had only taken the advice of my dearly departed father, which was "Son, keep that thing in your pants unless you want to miss out on your best years." He wasn't wrong, but he also wasn't right. My missteps produced two outstanding human beings, somehow. I was ill-prepared for fatherhood, but I muddled my way through it with great success (pats self on back), with mistakes of which there were plenty (kicks myself in the butt), and all the rest of it that went with the territory.

So kicking an opponent when he's down after losing is a good thing.
Got it.
No, but investigating misdeeds even if the person is powerful and/or prominent is. Unlike his father, Bolsonaro Jr. hasn't been found guilty of anything yet. But there are serious allegations against him that call for continued investigation and a prosecution if he is found to have broken the law.
The US could learn much from Brazil about holding former leaders and the powerful to account for their actions.
