Yep…. Better to create generations of government dependents than taking a chance of hurting the feelings of the poorly educated.

Red states use and receive more federally funded welfare and assistance programs per capita than blue states, though blue states generally provide more state-funded cash benefits.

Generations you say?

Blue cities in Red states for $500 Alex.

Alex: Cities in Red states follow these set of laws.

Memphis, says hold my beer.

I have not live in Memphis in 14 years, so guessing you are referring to calls by some for Memphis and/or Nashville to split off? Are those calls any different than people calling for Texas independence?

More importantly what TN law does Memphis not follow?

Shall we pull up some demographics maps of these red states?

They would still be under the red state’s laws and policies. Republican states with their superior laws and social policies should not have more people on assistance than blue states.

It is not surprising. Dems employ damaging policies and are massively incompetent in the basic services virtually everyone agrees are legitimate.

Please explain how the administration of social benefits is better in red states considering more people are on those benefits.

Please explain that you understand the original question about being in debt?

The OP brings attention to the states running with the biggest debt... Not states who spend the most on X, Y, or Z expenses.

You know why Cali is so much in debt, can you say social programs? They still owes the federal government around 20 billion to the federal government for unemployment benefits borrowed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the only state that has failed to repay its federal unemployment loan, forcing ongoing employer payroll tax increases.

Like I said blue states and blue cities need the most help, why is that? And what do they all have in common.

Sure the 5 states with the least debt are

ND +1 billion (46)
AK +11 billion (49)
WY +653 million (50)
UT -2 billion (28)
TN -4 billion (16)

And the most debt

NJ -68 billion (10)
CT -3 billion (33)
IL -63 billion (5)
MA -38 billion (14)
CA -276 billion (1)

The numbers that follow are the amount lost to or received from the federal government. The top 3 lowest debt states cannot even pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. The last number is the real GDP rank of each states. Debt by itself is not the full picture. I think those 5 debt states will be just fine. If we are talking debt we probably wanna talk about the debt the feds are racking up.

“welfare rate urban vs rural”…

Key Comparisons

Poverty Rates:
• Rural (nonmetro) poverty rates typically hover around 13% to 15.4% (e.g., ~13.6% to 15% depending on the specific year and U.S. Census/USDA data).
• Urban (metro) poverty rates typically sit lower, around 10.7% to 11.9%.

SNAP / Food Stamp Participation:
• Rural households are statistically more likely to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Roughly 14.4% of rural households receive SNAP benefits compared to 11.3% of urban families.

Employment and the Working Poor:
• A substantial share of the poor in both areas are employed (about 45% of prime-age poor householders worked at least part of the year). However, working rural residents face a higher poverty rate (around 9.8%) compared to working urban residents (around 6.8%) due to lower average wages and fewer local job options.

Income Levels:
• Median household incomes are lower in rural counties ($47,020 to $52,386) compared to urban counties ($54,296 to $59,970).

It’s gratifying whenever Mississippi, Wyoming, and Alabama can do something healthy with resources sent their way from taxpayers enjoying more successful economies in California, New Hampshire, and Texas. That’s what the subsidies are for.

Lots of blame to be given to both parties.

Yeah but those dummies graduate and run the states as adults and can do simple math and keep states solvent.

You likely haven't had the pleasure of meeting some of the Republican Party leaders in Tennessee. Some "brilliant" "adult-like" people. Of course, I would not want the Democratic Party to be leading the state either.

I would rather live in an interesting and vibrant city with museums, breweries, beautiful churches, healthcare facilities (helpful as I age), public transportation (helpful as I age), colleges and universities, live music venues, a variety of restaurants with world cuisines, coffee shops, sports and, most importantly, lovely ladies — despite suffering daily from irritable bowel syndrome ...

... than live in a rural area and have no irritable bowel syndrome troubles.

I don't give a flying f*** if Democrat run states stopped subsidizing Republican run states.

Let the Democrat run states keep their money and let them spend it on every woke initiative that they want.

They hate Republican run states anyway and want the people in them to die.

F*** Democrats.

Seriously. F*** every last one of them.

I wish they would all FOAD.

On the Hattiesburg theme ...

... I did not know that the city offered a zoo and that former SNL standout Fred Armisen was born in the city.

How many times are you going to move the goal posts? All I am saying it welfare is an issue in both urban and rural settings. Which tend to lean blue and red respectively. The data shows it slightly more of a problem in rural areas due to fewer available options and you still trying to argue it’s “blue blue blue!”
