When do we get back below $2/gallon is all I want to know. My 26 gallon truck tank needs that badly.

RE: AAA - Gas Hits $4
Quote:New York — Americans will likely face the highest Labor Day gas prices on record this holiday weekend. It’s another blow to a “drill, baby, drill” president who campaigned on affordable energy.

GasBuddy expects gas prices will be at least $4.03 a gallon on Labor Day, compared with just $3.16 last Labor Day. This would surpass the prior record of $3.83 for the holiday set in 2012.

“The pain is adding up. Unlike in 2022 (when Russia invaded Ukraine), the pressure has lingered for six months,” said Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis. “And there’s no schedule for when there will be relief.”

When adjusted for inflation, the record high for Labor Day gas prices was in 2008 at $5.63 a gallon using 2026 dollars. On that basis, Labor Day gas prices were higher in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina and in 2022 compared to today.

Still, drivers don’t adjust for inflation when filling up their tanks. The price of gas has a large psychological impact on consumers and is often viewed as a barometer for the cost of living.
Labor Day gas has never been this expensive. trump is scrambling for answers

We can only hope it's closer to $4.03 by Monday as it certainly isn't today.

Today’s AAA
National Average

$4.1474

That and to force everyone to give up their gas powered cars in exchange for electric vehicles that nobody that isn't rich can afford.

Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt both clock in with a starting price of $29k for a new car.

Stretching the definition of rich there.

Given that new trucks now start at $40k then anyone who isn’t rich by your definition definitely can’t afford a truck.

Yes, and me providing a frame of reference to a commonly purchased ICE vehicle with a starting price $10k more points out how ridiculous your argument that you need to be rich to buy an EV actually is.

The average new vehicle transaction price in the US is $49,855. There are a wide array of EVs lower than that transaction price.

Claiming you have to be rich to buy an EV is just ignorance driven by political bias.

Poor people can't afford EVs.

Poor people generally can’t buy any new car, depending on how you define poor.

But words have meaning, and saying only rich people can buy EVs is stupid when there are affordable new and used EVs significantly below the average new vehicle cost.

You can pick up a 2025 leaf for $20k and under. If that is a rich man’s toy you have really stretched the definition of rich to “not destitute”.

RE: AAA - Gas Hits $4
EV only vehicles are, for the most part, unable to compete with ice due to their range limitations.

This will change in a few months when the EREVS are released. Erev/Reev stands for extended range ev, but people confuse them with a hybrid. They are nothing like a hybrid. Erevs operate in pure EV mode unless a range extension is needed, in which case an ice engine starts up and does nothing but charge the batteries. The F-150 erev will likely be one of the first to be released, and will have a 700-800 mile range. It basically operates as a upre EV for ranges under 200 miles, and then becomes a train locomotive for the extended range. And it can pull likela train locomotive.

You get the benefits of EV in an EREV. There is no transmission (and F-150 transmissions would notoriously fail and were very expensive.) Electric motors have enormous torque and can pull an enormous amount of weight. Where EREVS differ is that you do not have to plan long trips around charging stops. The EREV F-150 has an ev only range of 200-250 miles, but a total range of 700-800 miles due to the ice engine kicking in and charging the batteries during the trip. This also means you can simply fill up with gas and keep going without locating a charging station, which is nice because when you are towing a trailer its almost impossible to find a charging station that can handle a truck and trailer combo where you can pull straight through.

So I believe the F-150 EREVS are going to be very popular. Because they will actually be a vehicle people want. You get the pulling power of an electric motor, and you get the convenience and peace of mind of an ice engine. And you can keep your air conditioning running and not having to deal with a sweaty butt crack because you are trying desperately to make that next charging station.
