Just filled up for $4.099 at Costco... they usually are ~$.30 cheaper than regular stations around here.

Yeah...and?

Before the war the AAA average was $2.98. It's $4.39 today. That's $1.41 higher per gallon.

And even if it falls to $2.98 tomorrow, you paid that premium for months for nothing gained. Celebrate! 01-wingedeagle

There will be a price war when/if oil prices get back in the $70s, which will happen when all of the pent-up supply starts hitting the market.

Yes, I am 100% saying it will take multiple times longer for gas to get back down to where it was February 27th than however long the strait ends up being closed for.
You are going to be wrong. We will see. It is a supply and demand issue. When the oil starts flowing again in the ME, the US oil companies won't be exporting as much oil as they are now. Remember we are exporting more oil now than ever in the history of the country. This is due mainly to the influx of Venezuelan oil. We will see a decline this weekend if oil keeps trading around $90/bbl through tomorrow. It will change that quick. These doom peddler Leftist oil "experts" are just barking propaganda. WTI was trading at just under $107/bbl 3 days ago. It is currently trading at $91/bbl.

We can make a bet if you'd like, same as the one I made with the WKU fan, $20 donation to the boys and girls club. I bet that however many days it ends up being that the Strait is closed that it will take twice as long for the nationwide average gas price to return to the pre-war average. Meaning if the Strait ends up being closed for 70 days I bet that it takes at least 140 days for the nationwide average to return to the pre-war level.
Deal.
I have this little wager going. As of today, I have 180 days for prices to get down to pre-war levels, and the Strait isn't even open yet. It amazes me how illiterate people are in this country with how capitalism works. Gas prices here are tanking right now. It is in the $3.50/gall range everywhere I go right now. GasBuddy can't even keep up with the prices. And we have a big Jeeping event going on this weekend. Usually prices tick up a little during care events on the Coast.

RE: AAA - Gas Hits $4
And while you celebrate the recent drop of a few cents per gallon...maybe take a pause and listen to some experts on where we're headed if something doesn't change soon.

Quote: - Exxon SVP Neil Chapman warned at the Bernstein conference that global oil inventories are approaching 'unheard of' lows and models show Brent crude could spike to $150-$160 once the operational floor is reached.

- Chevron CEO Mike Wirth said the market's shock absorbers have been 'steadily drawn down' and expects direct upward pressure on physical prices in June and July, with Hormuz still blocking 12-13 million barrels per day.

- Goldman Sachs data shows global inventories plunged a record 8.7 million barrels per day in May alone, while JPMorgan previously calculated only 0.8 billion of 8.4 billion total global barrels were realistically available before operational stress.

And yet, oil prices are sharply lower in May, in no small part due to the daily market jawboning manipulation by various official and unofficial sources, who signal that an Iran deal is imminent... any minute now.

Only it isn't, and while the market may prefer to shove its head in the sand, the biggest names in the room are no longer keeping quiet.

Today, Chevron CEO Mike Wirth warned oil prices are likely to rise over the next two months as already near record low crude inventories continue to decline due to the Iran war.

"The buffers and the shock absorbers are being steadily drawn down, and the ability for the market to absorb this imbalance is drastically diminished today versus where we started," he said at a Bernstein conference on Thursday.

"Over the next few weeks, we're likely to see those pressures flow through more directly to physical prices and there's more upwards pressure that I would expect as we get into June and certainly into July."

Tom. Do you live on a different planet? I'm serious. When are you going to read this garbage you post and think to yourself, "These people are always full of pshit". These are the same people that were saying oil was going to be at $200/bbl RIGHT NOW back in March. I can pull the articles and opinion pieces if you'd like, but I know you are aware of them. Oil is NOT going to $190/bbl anytime soon, and most likely ever in my or your lifetimes. If you compare gas prices to years past with regard to inflation, it is the cheapest it has been in over 60 years. The US is the center of the world with regard to oil thanks to Trump, and it is only going to get better.

RE: AAA - Gas Hits $4
It is a good time to remind Dem's criticizing gas prices that more goes into the cost than just product and distribution. Taxes including gas, local, sales, and "cap-and-trade" type add significantly more cost.

For example, California state taxes (excluding their local taxes and cap-and-trade / low carbon fuel standard costs) are $0.7092 per gallon compared to Tennessee state taxes at 0.2740 per gallon. Tennessee does not apply local taxes and cap-and-trade/low carbon fuel costs).

The "$150 per barrel of oil" predictors have been licking their wounds for a month. Some have admitted that they dont understand why oil didnt get that high. They are at a loss as to why oil didnt even go up as high as it did under Biden*. Now they are saying even if a deal ios reached, oil can get to $200 a barrel.

This is just like Gore saying the ice caps would melt by 2012. 2012 came and went, and the climate dickweeds had to push another dire warning further into the future.

Yeah, for a long time, gas in Columbus was maybe $.30 a gallon more than just across the river. Not lately, though.

Okay...pull them. 03-yawn

Dude, these are not opinion writers and they're not media personalities, news commentators, bloggers, or market analysts! They're industry executives.

Further. they're not claiming $200...and neither am I. AND THERE IS NO RECORD OF THEM EVER SAYING THAT! And I completely agree, I don't see it going that high with what we know currently.

And if you actually read what they said...and apply some critical thinking...they're making these statements under the assumption that NOTHING changes for pretty much the whole of the next month.

OF COURSE if an actual deal is reached and the SOH actually opens back up, this isn't going to happen and we'll likely return back close to pre-war levels. Albeit very slowly.

Never said they are saying it would reach $200/bbl NOW. If an Oil CEO were to come out and speculate what oil prices will be in the future the board would remove them immediately. And I don't remember you posting anything about his back in 2022.

Not sure why you posted all those...again, none of those are from industry executives, they are from market analysts. Stock traders if you will. And most all of them clearly state that $200 would be a worst case scenario if things stayed the same for a long time...and yeah, that's certainly possible.

And no, I didn't post about that in 2022 just as I am not posting about it now...I don't give a **** what market analysts opine about. They're about the same as those peddling fantasy football information for the next season. 03-wink

Today, I paid $3.69 per gallon at my local Kroger. It is a relief compared to the Biden era $5.29 inflation adjusted per gallon amount I paid.
