Stever, I just noticed you recently passed the 50,000 posts mark. Lots of valuable statistical info you've passed along over the years. You, along with Nameless and the two Bill's ( Marsh and Dazzle) have revitalized this board and made it a fun place to visit again. Thanks for the effort you guys put into it.
Appreciate it, TWill. I remember how good of a feeling it was when this board went from the "proving grounds" to the "active boards." I really liked posting on here when UConn was in The American, but that board was significantly more active and this board was dead when we made the move. Literally no activity in terms of new threads within the past year at the time, IIRC. I just started posting threads and bill dazzle was kind enough to entertain me, lol. Was always nice when I would see the occasional post from GW11, stever, gosports1, etc back then just because it made this place not feel like an echo chamber between the 2 of us (and obviously still is always nice to see their contributions.) You and all the other people that have come over from HLoH have been welcome additions as well. We have a very small, but nice little community here.
I've always wanted to see if we could get this board to the level the AAC board was at when I started posting here (and really even 3 years before that, I started lurking in 2016.) It may be tough, as I think that board was the 2nd most active board on the site behind the Conference Realignment Board at the time. But maybe if we can get some more Holy Land posters here, we can make it happen.
If you're looking for an example of what I'm talking about, here's my top thread I've ever posted in terms of views. It's a simple game thread like the ones I've been posting here... But it's 34 pages long, lol. And the thread has a little bit of everything that made that board great; competitive banter, trolling, the outlandish characters that made that place fun, etc. It's a little nostalgic for me to look at, and you may get a chuckle or two in if you make it through the whole thing haha.

That was funny reading a lot of that thread. It had a bit of everything, plenty of game commentary, but even a couple Sid Wilson references. I remember when it was considered a big deal when he suddenly left St. John's, but his career never really amounted to much at UConn. Then there were people arguing about somebody biting a couple players. Some good stuff in there. It would be nice if each team in the league had a poster or two that was involved here. Unfortunately when teams have down years their posters seem to go into hibernation. It's a good group we have now, but it would be nice to see a couple more hop on board.
Honestly when I posted that I had conflated it with the "bite thread" that was a week beforehand. The one I posted was good but the bite thread was an all time great
For context Dejon Jarreau, a guard for Houston, had bit a player in a game the previous week. One of the forum regulars (a UH fan) said it wasn't even a bite, even though the cameras clearly showed a bite and I believe a mark in the guy's leg, lol. He always stood by his takes and this one was no different, so people were really letting him have it. Even in the next week's game thread.
I agree, I would love to have people who cared so much they make outlandish takes defending their team then die on that hill defending the take on this board. They can be annoying at times but they always liven a board up and definitely spark discussion. Would also love to have enough people on here that the game threads actually had real time commentary, as the game threads over there used to. That's what sparked a lot of the great back and forth banter, and I think made people more likely to come to the board (I know I would always check the game thread at least once every UConn game, and more if people were really talking about the game.) I think our fan bases are passionate enough, we just don't have the numbers on the board quite yet. Hopefully we get some more former HLoH posters in here, there are times when I log in and see there are 20 or more active guests currently browsing. I figure some of those are active posters just signed out, but there are definitely people lurking who I'm sure we would all love to have on board.
I think that board had so much activity because of the situation the AAC was in. It was a solid to strong league in both football and basketball, but it had no brand recognition so casuals didn't even really know who was in the league. Furthermore, you had the 3 Big East leftovers who all felt they were worthy of a "Power" invite, as well as the C-USA backfills who felt their league had been getting snubbed in football for most of the past decade before they joined. They thought they were power quality too. It created this environment where if people from other boards came over to talk crap/troll, the entire board would pile on them in defense of their conference mates and the league as a whole. But they also were constantly trying to outdo one another and prove their school was the school most worthy of the next power invite, which lead to some awesome smack talk. You never knew what you would stumble across whenever you logged in.
I always felt bad for Sid Wilson. From what I remember, he wanted to go to UConn the whole time, but his mother passed away his senior season and his family wanted him to play in NYC. He enrolled but by the end of the summer knew he would rather be in Storrs, however the transfer rules made him have to sit out a year. Maybe I'm projecting/speculating a bit too much here, but I think losing his mom and then not having basketball as an outlet probably impacted him mentally and it really stunted his development as a basketball player. I know I missed an entire season due to injury and was never the same player, the game just felt like it had sped back up for me. Imagine going from prep ball to high level division one basketball and having to sit out a year after just losing your mom. He often looked like a fish out of water on the court, just lost out there despite his talent. There was a season we had 8 healthy scholarship players and Hurley went with a 7 man rotation, keeping Sid on the bench. I always felt he just mentally wasn't in the game and those factors were the reason. Perhaps in this modern transfer environment, he wouldn't have had to sit and things would have been different for him.
