Just speaking for myself, I'm not a Trump supporter. I support his policies but I dislike his personality. I actually don't like either party, but the Dems have gone overboard to the left, and I don't see them coming back.

As for Maduro personally, I have no reservations about taking him out. He had to go. He was shipping tons of cocaine to the US and elsewhere, and Trump, per Rubio in the presser, had made several generous offers to Maduro to leave, but he refused.

As for the US running Venezuela indefinitely, I'm not thrilled about that and need more info.

I would hope we dont make the same mistake we made in Iraq. Finish the mission and get out. Step one is leave their military in place so any new president will have their own force to deal with any trouble makers. We can back the Venezuelan military with drone or air help if needed for a while, but they need to just have an election and move on. I dont want us there for long. A few months---fine. I dont want to still be there a year from now.

Drugs was the key to the backdoor and while you are correct oil plays a major role into this. I think your reasoning is only 1/4 correct....

The NFA was passed in 1934, so we have not been charging people with NFA violations for centuries.

It would seem very hard to convict someone of possessing something outlawed by the United States unless they were physically in the United States. We can’t outlaw the possession of items in other countries.

If I had to guess how that charge is in the mix----maybe he is part of a conspiracy designed to move drugs and supply his cartel members in the US with those weapons (perhaps the weapons in the US were traced to the Venezuelan military armory). Its going to be a public document, so eventually, we will see the basis of the charge.

The charge is possession of machine guns or other destructive devices in conspiracy against the US.
