OT: What is Tulane thinking?

Just so many options for a head coach out there and they're going with him... it's kind of absurd.

I hear Charlie Huff is available as needed. What’s the commute between Memphis and Tulane?
Can’t be all that far?.

RE: OT: What is Tulane thinking?
The few Tulane arguments in favor of all handwave his failure at USM by just blaming it on USM, but a quick look at what has actually transpired...

So that's a decade of information. The non-Hall years produced a winning percentage of .547 and the Hall years produced a winning percentage of .286. You just can't handwave his USM record away with that context.

I'm not gonna sit here and argue that .547 is some kind of incredible run, but it's a far cry from .286!

Tulane with Hall and Memphis with Huff... Might be a while before the American has another season like this one. USF hire seems very solid, North Texas should be "ok" with Neal Brown, but I have some reservations about that.

A lot of questionable hires by programs that are supposedly trying to peacock strut themselves in front of "power" leagues.

I think this is the reality of people trying to save as much money as possible for the roster.

Jimmy's and Joe's and more important than X's and O's but X's and O's still matter enough that I wouldn't be making some of these hires if results were important to me.

The X's and O's guys pick the Jimmy's and Joe's though, and Hall is bad at that too.

Plus, Florida has to buyout Sumrall's contract. They should be LOADED!

We went 4-0 against Tulane in cross-division conference games, and none of those games were particularly close.
One of them was 27-26, and all 4 of them were in the 2005-’10 era, when Tulane really was in the initial phase of rebuilding from Katrina.

We have two conference titles, a BCS bowl victory against Southern Cal and (now) a CFP berth in the last 4 seasons. If a bad hire is the price we have to pay for that success, so be it.

They actually came pretty close to dropping to D3 in the late 90s or early 00s.

The stat I like about Tulane is they have more SEC championships than State.

On the sentiment that Hall was a mole at USM, it seems anyone we bring in with strong SEC ties doesn't do well at USM.

Narrowing it down even further to the HCs immediately before & after and removing interim-coached games leaves you with:

Jay Hopson (2016-2020): 28-23 (.549)

Will Hall (2021-2024): 14-30 (.318)

Charles Huff (2025): 7-5 (.583)

I’m pleasantly befuddled. For about a week or so, just as a joke, I’ve been pushing Hall for the job on Twitter whenever the opportunity to do so came across my feed. Hell if they didn’t actually hire the son of a gun.

RE: OT: What is Tulane thinking?
Will Hall was fired after starting 1-6 in 2024 so his record is actually 14-30. If you look at USM’s last 10 coaches, he’s second worst after ELLLLLLLLLLLLis. And that includes Monken who started 1-11 recovering from the 0-12 season.

Bobby Collins: 48-30-2 (61.25%)
Jim Carmody: 37-29 (56.06%)
Curley Hallman: 23-11 (67.65%)
Jeff Bower: 119-83-1 (58.87%)
Larry Fedora: 34-19 (64.15%)
Ellis Johnson 0-12 (0.00%)
Todd Monken: 13-25 (34.21%)
Jay Hopson: 28-23 (54.90%)
Will Hall: 14-30 (25.92%)
Charles Huff: 7-5 (58.33%)

Monken's record needs some color added as he had to rebuild from the absolute scorched earth brought on by Elloss. In 2015, Monken went 9-5 and won a division.

Thanks. I guess I mixed up how long he was actually here vs. when I checked out on him. My above post is now corrected.

Well, I guess they thought they'd hire another guy whose last HC spot was at a SBC school?

That DOES fit the mold of their hires....lol

He's at least 3 different posters or they are 3 close acquaintances; CLT, wavefan & fau Connoisseur. Maybe more honestly.

They kind of all post in the same vernacular, had the same opinions, and liked every post from each other, especially CLT. That was a few years ago however, no idea now.
