RE: Conference realignment's frenetic pace reaffirms Pac-12, Mountain West should have me
Matt Brown’ s educated guess, not reporting, is that Tarleton goes to CUSA!
MWC in 2026 will not be FBS compliant conference with 7 schools. But the two year grace period would coincide with the two year transition period of any FCS school. So, if Tarleton, Sac Sr, Montana, Dakotas are invited to the MWC, they and the MWC would be FBS compliant in 2028!

Tarleton would only go to CUSA if the door completely shut on the MWC which is highly doubtful at this point. Tarleton is already in negotiatons with the MWC which is different from just being a prospective candidate. It means the lawyers are already involved and are going over all the paperwork. I would be very surprised if Tarleton is not announced as the MWC next member in the next few weeks. Brown is very Anti Tarleton from his comments in past columns and that is why I quit subsbribing to him. He wants Tarleton to go to CUSA instead of MWC because he does not want to see Tarleton get the MUCH MUCH BETTER invite to MWC.

From Ross Dellenger of Yahoo who is a far more trustworthy reporter than Brown....
"The Mountain West has held deep and serious discussions with FCS Tarleton State, sources tell @YahooSports. MWC needs one more full member to qualify as a conference. Negotiations between the Texas-based FCS school and the conference have progressed."
Which was almost his identical Tweet about UTEP/MWC the day before they joined.

RE: Conference realignment's frenetic pace
It will be a good investment by Tarleton students if their athletic fee helps to move them up from Division II to FCS, then from FCS to FBS. Hopefully, the current rate will be enough.
$36.75 per hour with $477.75 max

FWIW, I don't think he is anti Tarleton. I think he is like so many others that want to see an established pecking order. Tarleton is by passing a lot of that as we have seen.

RE: Conference realignment's frenetic pace reaffirms Pac-12, Mountain West should have me
I think we have already been bypassed enough already, we are now at the top of the pecking order. It takes a huge financial commitment to jump from FCS to FBS now with the 5M fee plus conference entry/exit fees and increase not only to 85but now to 110. We may be the only school left in FCS that is willing to take on that level of commitment. The Montana's are a package deal and they MIGHT could swing one but they can not afford both. The Dakota's maybe and thats a big maybe but their location is an enormous red flag for conferences to send their sports team to between November and March. I think a Football only invite is all they will get and it will cost them basically the same amount. Cal schools are as broke as La schools UC Davis Maybe can swing it with a lot of private donations through BMD but otherwise I do not see them jumping either. Idaho will not go unless the Montana's do and even then they probably can not afford to do so under these new conditions. We are basically the only ones left that may be able to do it.

Spolovilo, you just listed one of my frustrations too. The FCS pool is drying up. UTA would get a CUSA invite tomorrow if they announced football was returning today. They have everything else. Maverick Stadium would need some upgrades but is better than Bowers right now.
I'd say Plaster, Aggie Memorial, Houchens or Joe Aillet are not that far ahead either.

Any chance with all of the current realignment, UTA leadership will change their minds and add football? With football, UTA would have invites to the American, Sunbelt, Mountain West and CUSA.

I haven't been able to ask anyone recently, but if athletics has any importance, then hopefully someone is on it.

With the way things are doing in college football I think there is less chance now than ever. Athletics just doesn't seem to be a priority at UTA

^As such, say hello to the OVC, reacquaint with the SLC (I'd say no if I were them), go to independent or maybe DII is where our aspirations best fit.
The desire to play basketball at a high level is in danger because a lack of a football team in this geographical region leaves little options.

Maverick Stadium would need a major renovation. Adding a scoreboard isn’t going to cut it.
But, I see your point although moot as it is.
My only guess is that UTA is more commuter school than traditional student.
Commuters have ZERO interest in Athletics because most are older and career oriented.

with around 5000 international students and lots of dorms, UTA is not a commuter school but being in the middle of a large metro area there are many students who mix classes with careers. many students such as the 12,000 or so in nursing alone and the large numbers in the various engineering fields are more focused on their studies than college life and school activities. that's probably the main thing the school is lacking in. having gone first to a small school (Texas A&I) in a small town where the the school was everything to everybody, that was the main difference I noticed when I transferred to UTA. the percentage of rah rah types is small. now that players are to be paid, I dont see the school as having the motivation or community support to do any more in athletics than they are doing now. probably lucky to keep the status quo. UTA's best hope would be to get an invite to a conference in this region that needs to balance out a football only member.

Thanks for the info. I was unaware of the student body makeup at UTA. My daughter was a top twenty tennis player in Juniors in Texas and we always loved playing at the Tennis courts at UTA.
She played Collegiately against UTA as well. Good tennis program.

And certainly, if the program does make a comeback, the Mav will either be renovated, they'll play in Choctaw Stadium or build a new venue on campus.
That being said, as Maverick Stadium is now, it is better than Bowers. Tell me where I'm wrong. Tell me anything Bowers has over the Mav.
And no commuter students don't have zero. They have less interest or desire, but not zero. When UTA wins, they draw.
1) There's roughly 10,000 students who live on or near campus but have little reason to engage with the Athletics program due to one bungle after another. See what we were building with our basketball program, then firing the coach who did it after three 20-win seasons. Those aren't commuter students.
2) Last year, UTA was top half in the conference for attendance for all team sports except baseball. There's a good following and I doubt football would be any different.

By all means offer anything other than insults. Built around the same time, the Mavs has a higher capacity press box, higher capacity, both have tracks, the locker, training, weight rooms and Mav Club area is bigger.
Maybe you'd offer what you know of the Mav rather than be the normal useless, flame throwing, previously banned poster you are. But unlike you, I have been to both and know what is there.

There is no doubt the student population is there.
I trust you are more aware of dynamics of UTA than myself. So, I am left to assume that Football is not a priority which is a complete whiff because of the school spirit it brings.

maverick stadium could form the basis for a decent stadium. it gets used often so the surface is periodically replaced, the lighting was built to tv standards, the pressbox and west stands are built of concrete not prefab metal and the east stands could easily be enlarged. they would need to build an operations building/stands at the south end and add some parking spaces as a big piece of the original lot has been repurposed for other uses. I am old enough to remember the band marching down greek row gathering up fans on the way to the stadium for games. it was pretty cool.
