Any expectation that any media have created that Oregon State and Washington State should knuckle under to a devaluation will be met with the stiffest resistance.

Maybe conferences should be taxed by the mile for poaching from other conferences, retroactive to at least the dissolution of the SWC. Or maybe college sports needs to die a grisly death. Or maybe conferences need to die as conduits for media money. Not that I have any greater wisdom on the subject.

I think merging the two can and probably will happen. There may be some egos stopping this now, but once cooler heads get involved, the merger happens. They really don’t have any other options.

Things seem to be heating up with the MWC and UTEP.

I've even heard a rumor that UTA and GCU were being looked at as an Olympic sports package.

This has gone beyond weird.

If they looking at Gonzaga, does that mean they are wanting even more non-football schools as part of that "package"? I would find it strange, but if the Pac is wanting NCAA Tourney money, then maybe? Gonzaga would add immediate competitiveness. GCU and UTA would bring markets and GCU adds somewhat competitiveness. Add some money to UTA's program and I can see things happening.

Tarleton as a possible addition to the MWC.

WAC is dead if Tarleton leaves

Unless UTEP & Texas State are part of the equation as well Tarleton needs to stay put.

Tarleton would be a hard outlier.

^Much like everything else in this game that doesn’t make sense outside football, that’s what drives this bus. The conference needs a FB member and TSU wants FBS. In the whole picture, I don’t blame TSU, even if I don’t think it’s best overall for them.

This just continues to reaffirm that UTA should have brought back football yesterday or we will be stuck in irrelevance in all sports.

It appears UTEP is going to the MWC which would be good for us.

FBS is the goal and so if this is the path, then we going to the Mountain.

I hope we do get in to the MWC. I do love the WAC but we always planned to move up and this is WAY WAY WAY better than CUSA. If we had to settle for CUSA I would have hoped we would move out as soon as possible. It will also get us rolling on Football upgrades and maybe we can get rid of the Frankenstands and build something more horseshoe like that would match the homeside in apearance all the way around. It would be great if ACU can join us in the MWC as our ideal travel partner and continue the high spirited but respectful rivalry we have with the Cats. Wyoming will be a really fun rivalry as the Battle of the Cowboy schools...we will need a trophy for that one!

Right now is a tough time to make long term decisions with big price tags. How are we to know what conferences will emerge as rock solid and which ones are propped up with very little long term stability. I would not want to be a doormat in the wrong conference and I would not want to be a university carrying the weight of a group of light weights. We need a competitive and solid solution to emerge from this current madness. I don't understand why and how our past groupings seemed so competitive and enjoyable but those times were great for fans and athletes. I guess pursuit of money wins today's reason for about everything. The NCAA wins no props from me due to our current disorder. We need a hypothetical conference with like-minded competitors that is attractive and of high-level athletics -- something other schools want to join if we should need them.

Is Tarleton ready for a move up to FBS?

Didn’t see this avenue opening up.

Sadly, but optimistically I believe it’s gonna happen.

Another point, another two years of transition will be the death knell for Whitten. I don’t see him surviving a school that just outgrew him.

At this point, G5 is not necessarily a move up as the landscape is still changing. There are some dollar differences but it doesn't make a school any more relevant. A school needs to know where it can make the most impact and be the most competitive.

Not so sure about that. Simply being FBS ensures a lot more linear TV time. Not to mention more mentions and articles from various publications. Now how relevant is that exactly on the national stage? Not as relevant as one would want but better than practically no coverage or mentions.

That is somewhat true, but it still isn't prime coverage like P4 CFP and that is all still changing anyway. I still expect that to break away. Once that does, we don't know what the future will look like for FCS and the G5. The G5 is FBS but will never be CFP, even with the new play-offs. It will always be a stepchild because that's how the powers that be want it. At least in FCS we have a better idea of where we fit and where we belong, and can keep better regional and institutional alignments alive. The payout money is a little better but the expenses are also significantly higher. I just think with all of the upheaval and changes the pay-off gap is getting smaller , not bigger. Those contracts will change as the CFP becomes more independent. The biggest thing preventing that is the basketball Tourney. Regardless, the bigwigs at the table are already dictating most everything.
