RE: Matt vs McCarthy
I’m not a big fan of Gaetz, but what he has done is not only right, but possibly the most right thing during my 40 years of voting.
Conservative principle number one in my book is personal responsibility. I think most others on the right hold it in high regard. This message board is constantly littered with posts calling for people and institutions to be held accountable. Kevin McCarthy was just held personally accountable for failing to honor his word and failure to help guide the House back on track to doing its job.
You can’t want Garland or Myorkas impeached and kicked out and turn around and defend the Speaker when his back room deals and failure to oversee a House that takes the use of the People’s treasure in a serious and prudent manner. He agreed to get us back to operating fiscally in an appropriate manner and then decided to just let the brokenness of the system continue.
At some point you have to stop the bleeding and send a message. This is a tough fight because so many of those House members have their hand in the cookie jar. We screw up every 2 years by not voting them out, so I’m glad somebody was willing to commit political suicide to make a statement for us.

Shocking not so shocking - Pelosi never moved out of the House of Speaker office and McCarthy never forced her out.

Oh please. Maybe once it's all over you will be able to sleep at night. Traitors. Your middle school drama teacher would be proud.
I'm sleeping just fine. Telling the truth isn't hard. Apparently, accepting it for a few is.
You had no problem with the spending Bill to "avert the shutdown" passing with all but one Democrat voting for it, but sky screaming because the Dems all voted to remove McCarthy. If they would have voted to keep him in place we would have really had a problem. Only 126 Republicans voted for the spending Bill. It was a Democrat bill. I think you need to look for your "traitors" in that bunch of 126.

We will learn more and more as time goes on. That alone should of gotten him removed. Coward. Before today, I had never heard of Patrick McHenry, but I like him already, and he has a good patriotic name to boot.

I don't think many people here do have any sympathy for him. I don't think he's a good speaker. That doesn't change the fact that this is a monumentally dumb move that hands an instant win to the dems and possibly gives the house to them. Which some people here are listing as a good thing.
Just like how the communists keep chipping away at the stone till they get the statue they want, some people need to learn that sometimes you can only take a chip out. But, you gotta keep going at it. Throwing a bomb at the stone and allowing the dems to get more of their agenda done than ever before aint the way.
This. I'm no McCarthy-ite apologist. This is about political survival. GOP has been getting its ass handed to it. But no, let's take our blood from our own party instead of the those destroying our country. Let's point fingers at each other. Y'all smack each other on the back and say great job. We're a better party now. We're better at fighting the DEMS. Whatever.

Seriously—-what did the Democrats win? They are cheering—-but they can’t possibly be happy their patsy negotiating dance partner is gone. It will be pretty hard for the Republicans to end up with a weaker negotiator on our side of the aisle.

It took 8 votes from the GOP siding with the DEMS to oust him. 210 GOP voted to retain his speakership. 210 members.

RE: Matt vs McCarthy
The GOP reps voting to oust the Speaker...
Quote:Most of the eight Republicans who voted to remove McCarthy had antagonized him ever since he became speaker. Along with Mr. Gaetz, they were: Representatives Andy Biggs of Arizona, Ken Buck of Colorado, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Nancy Mace of South Carolina and Matt Rosendale of Montana.
There is no clear replacement for Mr. McCarthy, though some names reliably come up in conversations with Republicans, including Mr. McHenry and Mr. Cole as well as the No. 2 and No. 3 House Republicans, Representatives Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Tom Emmer of Minnesota.
“I think there’s plenty of people who can step up and do the job,” said Mr. Burchett, adding that he did not have anyone in mind.
But on Tuesday, Republicans were scattering to their districts around the country to regroup, with no clear strategy for how to move forward.
Do any of the GOP voters against the Speaker have a plan?

Freaking love it. Gaetz has some similarities to Trump in that I don't particularly like the personality or morality of either, but when focused on issues about which I care, I want a fighter, not a spineless loser that compromises when the road ahead looks challenging.
Evicting the old hag from the Speaker's office is a terrific first move showing positive intent. I want MORE, much more.
Next move, convert the "ladies" room closest to Pelosi's new office to a transgender set-aside bathroom. Make the old hag **** with dudes in drag in the next stall or walk forever to find a female-only shitter.

He didn’t take her office because he has a sack. He took it because the dems all voted his boy out.

Anyone making this about the GOP vs Dem debate is missing the entire point anyway. It’s the establishment being held accountable. Simple as that

Complicated issue, but this is about as good a summation as anyone can offer. Well done, banker. +3.
And well done in the final measure also to former Speaker McCarthy. When faced with his own obvious failure to deliver on the terms he promised, he did the right thing and announced that he was stepping aside. In other words, he accepted personal responsibility for his own missteps and subordinated his personal feelings about Matt Gaetz and others who had come after him personally. He in the end understands that the interests of the nation are much bigger and more important than him. Good for former Speaker McCarthy.
If only the Trumplets would likewise realize that this works both ways. And whatever personal dismay they may have regarding the undeniable mistreatment of their demigod is far less important then what is in the best interests of the nation. That, of course, won’t happen. Personal responsibility and integrity is only for the other chumps, in the view of the M.O.B. Brigade.
And now let the requisite “Reeee” and “TDS” wailing begin.

Sorry, but Gaetz would run circles around AOC. Its not complicated. He wants to get spending under control. An 8% decrease is not even scratching the surface of the kind of budget cutting that needs to be done. Anyone who cant understand that a 2 trillion dollar a year budget deficit is not sustainable has no business being in a leadership position for the nation. We havent passed a proper budget in this nation since the 1990's. Just let that sink in for moment. Thats not governing---thats coasting---and its really not about being Republican or Democrat. Its time to govern.
I don't disagree with getting spending under control and getting to a balanced budget. I just don't like Gaetz. He comes across to me as a lifelong smarmy politician, a bit sleazy. He's looking out for himself and wants a higher office. Thats just how I feel about him. It's a gut feeling.
You just described every politician in Washington.
