As someone who has had to grab a firearm as someone was breaking into my bedroom window in the middle of the night, count me as firmly in the camp that believes any type of security device or lock infringes on my second amendment right, specifically for self defense.
Mine is on my night stand at night chambered and ready. I safe it along with my long guns when I'm gone. I have a carry piece when out and about. I have a locked compartment in my truck if I ever have to leave the weapon in truck.

That sounds like a very responsible approach to firearms storage. Mine is similar, but I have a bump in the night quick access safe next to the bed bolted to the floor for night access.
That's the goofiest thing I have ever heard. What do you think, someone is going to go into your room while you are sleeping and use your gun irresponsibly? Keep it chambered on top of your safe and put it in there when you leave.

He has no interest in "responsible gun ownership". His whole argument is a ruse. He'd be better off just shooting straight, so to speak.

I do have a small biometric safe in my nightstand drawer but have found it cumbersome for quick access.

I use the gun vault four button boxes, I've been using them forever and am very fast on the code.

No, I don't want to leave a loaded weapon out and accessible in a home with children. Pretty basic common sense there.

I was told not to touch any weapon when I was a child and obeyed. Maybe raise kids that obey.

Maybe when they grow up they obey laws and dont decide to cut their privates off and murder children

Pretty basic common sense.

Sir, you forget that to the liberal, an aborted child, is a child saved from being victimized and not a murdered fetus. Should one accidentally be born and allowed to live, they must be raised by the state to protect the child from its loving parents. Their mindset presupposes your victimhood which is why they deny you a weapon for defense. It is a self-fulfilling nihilistic prophecy for feckless and Godless generations raised and educated by the state to be victims. Anyone who survives and thrives is therefore an enemy because their existence proves the lie of the state's necessity to control, and provide, for those it tyrannizes.

My .45 stays is in a holster concealed in a false back of my nightstand. It's only visible from a certain angle while laying in bed. It has a 14.5 lb trigger pull so I don't have to worry too much with my toddler at this point even if she knew where it was. Admittedly I'll have to get more creative as she gets older.

My 12 gauge bullpup is concealed behind a Velcro flap inside the box spring of the bed. Most of my hunting rifles & shotguns are in a built in gun cabinet downstairs.

Most home invasions are two to three perps. If you are at home it usually is not one guy breaking in. I keep a silent but effective sharp short brush hook and a subsonic caliber pistol close at hand. Subsonic rounds tend to flatten when hitting a hard surface and expend their full energy in the soft bodied target. If you have children in other rooms you do not want to use a supersonic round as the ricochet potential is much greater. Everyone needs a home defense plan with a silent weapon of some sort included. Nobody wants gunshots careening through the home when the family isn't gathered in one spot. 12 Gauge pumps with buckshot are effective and don't ricochet too much.

The plan should be for the wife to silently dial 911 and whisper the situation to alert law enforcement that you are armed, and perps are in the home. That makes them more cautious, hopefully, about who they engage if they arrive in time to catch everyone still there. Since there are usually more than one taking the first one quietly is important to protecting your family. Get him, and when you have to fire upon the second, usually the third bugs out. If possible, get your children into your bedroom before you engage anyone and stay in between your family and the perps. Happily, my children are grown. My wife is always next to me. That makes my defense strategy stronger.

Of course. Look at her sweatshirt, its completely callous and void of any meaningful message. She doesn't want change to stop another shooting, she wants to exploit the shooting to have more laws and regulation placed on those with whom she disagrees. If she really wanted positive change she wouldn't completely disregard the families that certainly need lots of thoughts and prayers while they are going through such a tragedy.

14.5 point trigger? Wow, that’s like a J frame smith revolver trigger.

That's solid, probably would work for most. My family all sleeps in my master and there is only one obvious way to the door. I designed the house to be easy to defend, especially that room. Being 30 minutes from the closest town calling 911 isn't much of an option. I've got enough crazy family within a couple hundred yards that less than 8-10 unwanted guests are going to be outnumbered and outgunned within minutes of the first shot being fired.

On the list of people I'm looking for parenting advice from you rank well below our golden retriever.

Just based on your posts

I can absolutely guarantee my progeny will dominate yours in every conceivable aspect of life.

Not even close.

Cool story.

There's nothing like the compound approach to defray bad guys. There are several such arrangements with which friends of mine are involved and they utilize outside cameras on the perimeter of the area to detect and alert when people enter after hours.

That's the goofiest thing I have ever heard. What do you think, someone is going to go into your room while you are sleeping and use your gun irresponsibly? Keep it chambered on top of your safe and put it in there when you leave.

14.5 point trigger? Wow, that’s like a J frame smith revolver trigger.

DAO semi auto?

Yep, more specifically a Cobra Patriot .45 ACP. On the cheaper end of concealed carry spectrum, especially for a .45. Slightly above average quality, but with some minor tweaks and regular cleanings it has never failed to fire. It's too damned heavy to carry comfortably so it stays in the house as a last resort if I'm surprised while in bed. The go to at home is the 12 gauge if I hear them coming.
