I don't think that's exactly what they're saying. I think what they're saying is, those who are glorifying Ryan's spectacular accomplishment of taking us to three straight bowls in his tenure didn't do anything more than ground chuck did. And ground chuck played a lot more prominent teams than Ryan has.
My point was also that Stobard didn't play a better schedule that we play now.
Folks are looking at Stobart's "prominent" teams through a 2022 lens, not an 1990's lens. Ole Miss went to the Sugar Bowl, Miss St went to the Liberty Bowl, and Arkansas went to the Outback Bowl last year. Those 3 were all terrible back in the 90's. Tennessee was good, but the other SEC teams Stobart played were dogs.
There are several current AAC teams that are better than the 1990's Ole Miss, Miss St & Ark teams.
You are correct in that I am saying is that Ryan is not different than what Tiger fans had been used to before the resurgence from 2015-2019. We need a coach that can get us back there, not take us back to where we've normally been before the resurgence.
I disagree. Stobart's schedules were tougher. While Ole Miss and Ark were not as good, Ms State was ranked. We played UT, 7th ranked Alabama, 9th ranked Miami and a good Missouri team. We didn't have the amount of cupcakes we now have either. Usually the "weakest" team on the schedule in those years was Ark State. We played Louisville, Cincinnati and Southern Miss (back when they were annually good) every year too.

Southern miss was a below .500 program, Louisville was a couple of games over .500 padded by a good 1990 10 win team and 1993 9 win team the rest were pretty bad, and Cincinnati was absolutely abysmal during Stobarts tenure winning a total of 19 games in 6 years. So no those 3 teams were not annually good

RE: Adding to Seth staying Silverfield confirmed back as well
Let's look at some facts.
1. Silverfield is not going anywhere. Conclusion: Accept that fact and stop the new coach stuff. You are wasting your time.
2. Seth is returning. He will have another year of experience. That should bode well for us.
3. We are coming off of several great recruiting years. Those players will have another years experience is 2023
4. We have a weaker schedule in 2023. That means more projected wins on paper. So, if you are one who only supports the school if the football team is winning BIG...then you should have your wish.
5. If you are a band wagon jumper, you will probably like 2023.
6. If you are a true Tiger fan, you will continue to buy season tickets and should have a great time in 2023.
7. If nothing pleases you but a 10-2 record and a conference championship every year or even every other year...you are living in fantasy land. It could be worse. You could be a Texas A&M Aggie.

Getting off topic, but Stobart’s undoing was the player walkout, not three, 6-5 seasons.

This team will be underdogs against Missouri. Boise State has a top 10 defense in the country. I don't know if they can beat SMU & Tulane now. They'll likely lose one of the three between North Texas, Charlotte, and Temple (we haven't won at Temple in a while). And this team won't beat UAB in Birmingham with Trent Dilfer being their head coach.
Unless they're drastic change, I can see this team going 7-5 next year.

If thats the case--knowing our administration -- they will extend Silverwokes contract---citing a one win improvement from the previous 2 seasons

And that worries me the most. Looking at Memphis' schedule, I'm hesitant to say this team will win 8 games. I can't say confidentially. But that one game improvement will be enough for Silverfield to persuade the administration staff for an extension.

Technically. Every second spent on a sports message board is waste of time but, setting that aside, those of us who were never on the Tubby Train should have just accepted him and been supportive?

Here's the avg number of ranked opponents played each year, for each coach:
Chuck 1.7
Rip 1.5
West 0.7
Porter 0.5
Fuente 1.3
Norvell 3.0
Ryan 1.3
Other than Norvell on the high side, and West/Porter on the low side - there's not much difference in the others. In the modern, CFP, expansion era football there is no doubt that Norvell played the toughest schedule - and he only played 1 ranked SEC team his entire time here.
I think the difference, for some of our fans, comes down to...Back in the old independent days we played more SEC teams - some of whom were ranked. Now we play just as many good teams, but they aren't from the SEC. The only ranked SEC team we've managed to get a series with since joining the AAC is Freeze-era Old Miss.

Memphis football has to challenge our area rivals for fans to attend in droves, those games generate excitement ingrigue....I remember the mascot commercial during Cals' tenure where our mascots would encounter impromptu run-ins with our rivals. Those commercials resonate to this day...You can pretty much guarantee attendance levels to a certain extent and if the records are above average wins, then it's bedlem If that's NO LONGER the modus of aperendi Or however that's spelled...Heading into these uncharted waters is terrifying, absolutely, there's no other way to spin this, Silvernutz is NOT the captain for this journey...Holding the wheel but taking orders results in catastrophic loss of vessel/lives/resources....You need a captain that has navigated through a storm, as close to this magnitude of storm as possible
