Chuck Stobart beat real teams from the SEC and went 6-5 when bowl games weren’t handed out like Halloween candy. Any of his teams would have obliterated Silverfields teams.
This is true.
Let's not over-shine Ground Chuck's record as coach of the Tigers.....
Chuck Stobart had a losing record against So Miss, Louisville, East Carolina, and lost to Arkansas State & SW Louisiana during his 5-year term as the Tigers head coach. Folks on this board particularly remember Stobart's wins vs. Ole Miss, Miss State, and the 3 wins vs. Arkansas during the 92, 93 & 94 seasons (all 6-5 Tiger records). However, if you look back at Ark, UM & MSU's records during that span, those were some very mediocre teams. The only time we beat one of those 3 with a winning record was the win vs. Ole Miss in '93.
Regarding strength of schedule:
1. If we could get Ole Miss, Miss State, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama & Vanderbilt to play us home & home (like they did back in the 80's & 90's), I'm certain that they would be on the schedule.
2. I'll go out on a limb to say that the Cincinnati, UCF & Houston teams we played the past 3 years are better than the Miss St, Ark & Ole Miss teams we played from 92-94. The Cincinnati team from last year was certainly better than the Tennessee teams Stobart lost to during those 3 years. The Miss State team we beat last year would likely beat the Ole Miss, Miss St & Ark teams from 92, 93 & 94.
While I'm not saying all this to justify keeping Silverfield, I want to clear up any misconceptions about the "glory years" when Chuck Stobart was coach.
Plus Stobart's signature win was over what turned out to be a 3-8 USC team.

Laird Veatch prior to 2022 football season…
Veatch threw his support behind Silverfield, complimenting how sound the program is through its culture and attention to detail. But he also acknowledged this season is critical with realignment and announcing plans to renovate Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
“I think in our world, you live year-to-year so much that every year feel as big as the next,” Veatch said. “But there’s certainly a lot of reasons why this (year) is really important, and we get that trajectory back in the direction everybody wants. He’s doing the right things to get there.”
So, Veatch was way wrong and he's supposed to know stuff..... Interesting.
Veatch could care less. He's trying to get the heck out of dodge.
There is a term for this...like being led astray; like Alice in Wonderland,,,,Where in the hell is "there", there could be ANY damned where....It's all jibber jabber; hosh posh; hokey pokey schit...The comment that Penny has no allies in the administration.....There are no plans to go ANYWHERE

Of course Silverfield will be back. No one else is knocking on the door to give him a HC job, so why not ride that paycheck?

Well? Just think. If we'd lost to them, they would have been 4-7. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose. It is damned impressive to beat USC as a "mid-major" no matter what. On reputation alone.

Blah blah blah negative nelly.
Silverfield was handed one of the best, if not the best, G5 programs in the country and has turned it into a consistent sub .500 conference squad in just 3 short years. I suspect he’ll benefit from the significantly softer conference schedule next year, but he’ll fall back to his comfortable mid to lower conference mark the following year. It is who he is.
He is not getting it done here, but we’re too apathetic to do anything about it.
Spot on.

Do we have an admin or is it just a number of people drawing a pay
check and doing nothing ? Very related to the state of our work force in the
USA today. The establishment will provide for all people and control all people. Just pay for everyone's education so they can be successful and not owe anybody for their success. Me, me, me. The government owes them because they are so wonderful. BS !!!

Yeah, the schedule is always brought up - glorifying the old days and slamming the current. But our conference the past few years has been stronger than anything the past could offer consistently.
Sagarin rankings only go back to 1998. Here are avg SOS ratings for each coach:
Rip 70
West 98
Porter 96
Fuente 92
Norvell 78
Ryan 90
So Rip's schedule (at least the last 3 years) was stronger. But there's no mistaking that the AAC has brought our SOS back up - starting with Fuente.
We can also look at ranked opponents going all the way back to Chuck. Here's the avg number of ranked opponents played each year, for each coach:
Chuck 1.7
Rip 1.5
West 0.7
Porter 0.5
Fuente 1.3
Norvell 3.0
Ryan 1.3
Other than Norvell on the high side, and West/Porter on the low side - there's not much difference in the others. In modern, expansion era, CFP football there is no doubt that Norvell played the toughest schedule - and he only played 1 ranked SEC team.
I think the difference, for some of our fans, comes down to...Back in the old independent days we played more SEC teams - some of whom were ranked. Now we play just as many good teams, but they aren't from the SEC. The only ranked SEC team we've managed to get a series with since joining the AAC is Freeze-era Old Miss.

There are many available but we have an admin satisfied & unwilling to pull the trigger. They prefer mediocrity & losing conference records to doing their jobs.

Adding to Seth staying Silverfield confirmed back as well
Well, it appears RS is coming back and I assume we’ll have many players returning from the last 2 seasons. The coaches and players desperately need to find some resolve. We’ve squandered way too many leads and lost several close games. If Silverfield ever wants to be viewed in a different light, he’s gonna have to quit blowing games and win more close ones.
I’d like to see us add some dynamic athletes and get more creative with our play calling.

Now that they hand out toilet bowl invites to teams going 5-7 I guess we’d be happy with his ‘successes’ and looking forward to him turning it around next year.
I don't think that's exactly what they're saying. I think what they're saying is, those who are glorifying Ryan's spectacular accomplishment of taking us to three straight bowls in his tenure didn't do anything more than ground chuck did. And ground chuck played a lot more prominent teams than Ryan has.
My point was also that Stobard didn't play a better schedule that we play now.
Folks are looking at Stobart's "prominent" teams through a 2022 lens, not an 1990's lens. Ole Miss went to the Sugar Bowl, Miss St went to the Liberty Bowl, and Arkansas went to the Outback Bowl last year. Those 3 were all terrible back in the 90's. Tennessee was good, but the other SEC teams Stobart played were dogs.
There are several current AAC teams that are better than the 1990's Ole Miss, Miss St & Ark teams.
You are correct in that I am saying is that Ryan is not different than what Tiger fans had been used to before the resurgence from 2015-2019. We need a coach that can get us back there, not take us back to where we've normally been before the resurgence.
