Jobs that could still open
Interesting.

Memphis: The Tigers became bowl eligible Saturday with a 59-0 win over North Alabama. But coach Ryan Silverfield may need a win this week at SMU to ensure he returns for 2023. A loss to SMU would give Memphis the exact same record (6-6, 3-5 AAC) as it had last season. Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom, who nearly became Memphis' coach in late 2015 before getting the Missouri job, likely would be part of a solid candidate pool this time around.

Odom was worth a shot in 2015. Now we have more info. We know who he is as a HC.

not really. Some coaches may be more competent at a G5 type job, than a P5 job.
Arkansas will have a set of expectations that a job like Arkansas State wouldn't have for instance.

I don’t ever want a defensive minded coach here. EVER.

I thought that about K Smart at UGA but he’s been very good about choosing Offensive staff & letting them coach.

He wouldn’t work here. You can’t get those elite defenders to come to Memphis. And I know his offense wouldn’t work here

I'm with you on the coaching type. With the type of recruits we are likely to get we are better off focusing on trying to score 40-50+ points in a game than trying to shut the other team down and doing just enough offensively to win.

Ground Chuck had some very good players
He was famous for winning games he wasn’t supposed too and losing some he wasn’t supposed too.
Ike thinks he was a solid coach who was needed at the time

Ground Chuck played a brutal schedule.

Best coach we’ve had over the past 30 years not named Fuente or Norvell.

RE: Jobs that could still open
Odom would likely be like Fuente as a head coach. Have success at a G5, but not so much at a P5. If I remember correctly, he whooped the hell out of Mike Norvell the 1 time they played. Judging his head coaching skills based on short tenure at Missouri is a little unfair, not many 1st time head coaches succeed at lower level SEC schools. His time here as DC I remember being very impressed with him being able to work with what he had and putting his players in the best position to succeed with their skill sets.

Now having said that, the point is mute as we are not currently in market for a new head coach.

We should be if we want to contend for the AAC title. If we’ve given up on the program, stay the course to mediocrity or worse.

Odom had bad timing at Mizzou, on top of the other challenges that program has inside the SEC (recruiting, bad fit). They had that whole turmoil going on there culturally - on campus and in the lockerroom. I may be wrong, but I don't believe Odom was responsible for any of that.

That said, I want a hungry offensive coach. Why mess with the formula?

We have a coach.

There is basically a zero chance Deon Sanders would come here from JSU.

If Ryan were to step down , the best candidate to succeed here is unknown to 99% of the fan base here
