UIW’s addition was spearheaded by the football schools. So fans of ACU, TSU, SFA, SUU, and DSU can blame your own administrators for “adding” UIW. They were added for football. If UIW didn’t have football, they would have never been considered for membership

SFA ran from schools like UIW. This wasn’t their idea.

SUU should add football, they are large enough to support it, and they would be a perfect buy game for BYU.

The funny thing is without SHSU, UIW would win WAC football year in and year out. Tarkleton is indeed lucky!

I don’t care who inside the WAC was the primary entity(s) for inviting UIW, I’m just glad they are not here.

Since membership doesn’t require a unanimous vote, it very well could have been yea. SFA may well have voted yes after seeing the tea leaves. I’m not privy to the behind the scenes.

Why I am privy to is SFA’s growing disdain for the SLC in all-sports. They disliked the watering down of the SLC schools competitiveness by adding HBU, New Orleans and yes, UIW. They laughed at their overall facilities and their non-football competitiveness.

It’s common sense. Why would Seattle, Cal Baptist, GCU, and UVU want to add a horrible basketball program? Why would the Texas schools agree to add them if they didn’t need them?

Football schools wanted them added. It’s common sense, no matter what you want to believe. And everyone agreed to it.
