On a personal level I won't applaud the misfortunes of anyone. On a more practical level, I don't give a rats ass what happens to a person who thinks he/she is above accountability.

I may have given a damned about the length of sentence( and NOT the fact that he was busted and sentenced) had he not kneeled for the anthem. He has every right to do so, and I have every right not to give a flying f*ck. So he can sit in that damned cell and think about that.

I don’t know what trace the Biden State Department has proposed to obtain her release, although (whatever it was) it was obviously rejected by Russia. I am honestly curious to see what the Biden Admin. will do about it.

The Russian government floated the idea of trading Griner for the Russian arms dealer was also a friend of Putin. Which really supports the idea this was political.... And remain so.

There are politics everywhere in our society and in the whole world. It is how things get done (and not get done). If you don't like it you best stay out of the way of it because it may not always be to your advantage.

She broke a rule in the place she was, she by all accounts has been given a punishment that is similar to others who have broken the same law.

Would you agree to that trade? I would reject it — I think it would just encourage anti-US elements to kidnap or arrest other U.S. citizens and then offer to release them in exchange for people like Viktor Bout.

I agree, but I would phrase the last part as having no sympathy for her instead of not giving a rat's ass. (Just me personally.)

Actually, I take that back. I feel bad for her in this aspect: I do feel like she's being used as a political tool by Putin due to her athletic prowess and therefore status. Because of that, she's probably being made an example of, hence the harsh sentence. She didn't ask to be made an example of. At the same time, however, she derided the United States every chance she got before the whole thing ever happened. Plus, she knew (or should've known) the drug laws in Russia since she played pro hoops there when the WNBA wasn't in season. Even if she didn't know Russian law, ignorance is no excuse.

All in all, I do feel a little sympathy for her, but not much.

The funniest part of this entire thread is UMSU keeps calling Griner a he.

While there might be some truth to that especially since Biden is only involved because of politics. But I dont think you thought of it that way? Russia on the other hand this is close to the same sentence other Americas received for the same crime....

So with that a person can look at it as politics on the part of Russia but the fact this is in the same context of other caught committing the same crime point the other way
