No doubt it's political but it is STILL her fault for breaking another country's law. That is all on her. Ignorance is never an excuse.

9 years with hard labor for a vape pen. Whether it's planted or not ... both are unjust. That's the point. Its both political and unjust on its face. But it works because it plays right into the glee some take and seeing a outspoken gay black woman treated this way. And Putin knows that. That's another point.

Are you sure about that, or is this a case of mis-gendering?

RE: Griner sentence upheld
Two Scenarios. These are not necessarily real ... I am juxtaposing:
Country 1 is the same in each scenario and country 2 is the same in each scenario:

Scenario 1: Drugs. An individual is carrying a reasonable amount needed for personal use on them.
Country 1: Illegal. Penalty is 1 year in prison
Country 2: Not illegal. Knock yourself out

Scenario 2: Prostitution. An individual is selling sexual favors for cash consideration
Country 1: Not illegal. go about your business
Country 2: Illegal. Penalty is 1 year is prison

So tell me Tiger City which country is wrong?

No sympathy for this woman. Anyways she will be fine. 9 years of licking Russian box should be right up her alley.

This especially goes for bringing drugs abroad and just a classic idiot thinking since its no biggie to its own mind or starting to become that way in the states then it said F it and is paying the consequences. Griner lived and learned.

Reminds me much of the Otto Warmbier's case which was even 10x worse in my moral opinion of the laws, but NK clearly states don't take their stuff. He didn't listen. Unfortunately he didn't get the chance to learn from it. Griner will and everyone else can move along.

Yep. For those that don't or remember Warmbier was a 22 year old college studnet who was imprisoned in NK in 2016 after stealing a propaganda poster from his hotel. He was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment. In March of 2016 he suffered a neurologic injury after an undisclosed "incident" and fell into a coma. He was sent back home in June of 2017 still in a comatose state and died less than a week later after his parents pulled the feeding tube.

In other words, at least Griner isn't getting bludgeoned in prison right now.

Again - Unjust to whom? You? Russia does not care what you or anyone in the US thinks. 500+/- miles away from the Russian border is Amsterdam - polar opposite rules from Russia regarding weed. Oh and also more forgiving then currently not federalized weed rules in our country. Does Russia give any f's about their rules either? I bet no.

As for the "outspoken black woman" bit. All most anyone here sees is an ungrateful spoiled American person who seems to believe they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, and wherever they want to do it? The fact that she also checks off lots of other boxes in your mind really means little to nothing.

Killing someone for being gay is pretty unjust, I think you would agree. However, I must have missed your posts condemning the Muslim countries that have these laws.

The bottom line is the laws countries have is their business. If you don’t like them, don’t go there. However, if you do you have to follow those laws.

Oh, and she admitted bringing the vape pen, so get off the “it may have been planted” false narrative.

There's people in this country whose detainment, prosecution and subsequent jail sentences are "political". If I mention the incidents I am guessing you would be in support of those individuals being prosecuted and sentenced.

This is such a smart point. You rarely hear Libs condemning Muslims for literal atrocities, yet they sky scream about Christians for not baking a cake or saying they don't believe in 573 genders.

Her being gay

Her being black

Her being a woman

None of those have nothing to do with what people think about her.

Her being a self loathing United States hating card carrying leftist.....now thats a reason to not give a flying monkeys ass about her.

Maybe after 9 years in Russia she will appreciate this land.

It’s not Biden’s fault that Paul Whelan is in prison. But it is Biden’s fault that Viktor Bout is out of prison.
