RE: We Choked
Vanderbilt has looked bad. I think we still can win that game but we can't let Rocky play another 1st half with one hand tied behind his back.

Vanderbilt looked bad? Didn’t we say that about Tulsa?

They beat a bad Hawaii team and gave up 31 to the fighting Elon Musks. Wake Forest was up 45-18 before Vandy scored a garbage TD.
I gotta be optimistic here...

Along with AAC sucks, Tulsa has over confident pompous fans or something .

I'd love to hear the logic of that. I can somewhat understand it against EIU, but not against Tulsa.

Tulsa is pretty bad. They gave up 28 second half points. They’re giving up almost 38 a game. NIU was a mess the first half because Hammock wants to be a tough guy and run the ball no matter what. When he adjusted NIU was better than Tulsa.

We beat Vandy. Hammock learned an important lesson tonight. His O-line isn’t the old Redskin Hogs. They’re good but not special. He needs to be more balanced. Rocky is a weapon he stymied with that run areogance

We threw the ball 10 times on 6 drives in the 1st half. Almost all of those making Rocky stand like a statue in the pocket.
We threw the ball 21 times in 2nd half and had him move out the pocket and were way more successful.

Agree. I think they do the 15 plays scripted to see the defense. Or in NIUs case, usually a 1/2 or so like today.
I can’t argue as it has worked , won games with honestly lesser talent. As well as “one play to win the game.” Today they lost the game on that play when most think they didn’t need to. Just the was Hammock is.

RE: We Choked
Hammock is a good coach and motivator. But if he wants to go to the next level and return to a New Years Bowl, NIU has to open up the pocketbooks and he's gotta cut that whole defensive staff loose.
D Coordinators for sure (because we have a main and co this year), these guys don't have a clue. But also the secondary and cornerbacks coach. These kids look so fundamentally bad out there. Their footwork is atrocious, always flat footed. The way they react to the ball, looks like they just picked up the game today.

It has worked against MAC teams and a bad GT team. That's it. Hammock thinks we don't need to have a balanced offense. We do.

Eidsness doesn't get it. We either pass too damn much like we did against Kent State (1st loss). Or we run too damn much, like today and EIU.
Sigh. This is what you get when your a MAC program. If our coordinator were any better, he'd be somewhere else.

RE: We Choked
That was a tough 4th down call. Should the receiver have caught it? Probably...
Should we have punted it and made them drive the whole field (they needed a TD)? Probably...

Right. But Tulsa still would have drove on us. We couldn't stop their passing attack for nothing...then we would have never had a chance to try and comeback

They had 7 points in the second half until a Hail Mary with 1 minute left. That’s not exactly scoring at will.

He got about 60 on the last drive. He had a good game but again - 7 points in the final 28 minutes of the game. And then he threw up a jump ball. And it was one of those under thrown so badly the wr had the advantage.
