The decision does nothing but send the responsibility of abortion legality back to the states. I can’t tell if the comments about having to leave the country for an abortion are sincere or if it’s just trolling.
If your state has laws making abortion legal, nothing has changed.
In states with trigger laws the decision automatically made abortion illegal in some states and further regulated it in others. If you live in one of those states, you have two choices: travel to a state where the procedure is still legal or work to take control of the state legislature in your state to change abortion laws.
As a Christian living in Kentucky I’m glad it was made illegal. Now if we could just get rid of the death penalty, I would be even happier.
My opinion: you can’t be Pro-Life and Pro-Death Penalty. Differ sides of the same coin.
No it isn't. The unborn are innocent. They will sin, but haven't. Murderers and rapists have judged themselves by action. There are 3 words in Hebrew which mean to kill. One is in defense of family, self, or nation. One is in execution. The third is in murder and manslaughter. The 10 commandments "Thou shalt not kill" only used the third word. Thou shalt not murder, or through willful negligence cause the death of another. Defense and execution were not in the prohibition. Stopping murderers is preserving life. Stopping rapists is preserving the sanctity of life. In order to uphold life we must first be willing to defend it. Capital punishment is not the opposite of sanctity of life, it is the upholding of it!
JR, I agree with Jim about the death penalty. I don’t believe Government should execute it’s citizens. That being said I have no problem with labor camps and prison self sufficiency and if inmates don’t work they don’t eat. I do not like the idea of using tax dollars in effect punishing law abiding citizens to fund inmates. Remember Cain was not executed by ostracized.
Now comparing the number of death penalty executions to the number of abortions annually is ludicrous.
But, if it’s life and death to defend yourself desperate times call for desperate measures and you have every right to defend yourself even if it means having to kill someone. Hopefully no one will ever be put in this situation.
Vengeance is mine says our Father.
All law is of God and beneficial. Why? The purest form of evil in the Old Testament and beyond is Chaos. God is in part order. Chaos is everything which is not God. So, some law, even poorly applied law, bring some order and is therefore somewhat beneficial.
Do you know why Abraham was tested with Isaac? It is the same reason Israelites were commanded to wipe out certain Canaanite tribes and take nothing from them while others were treated as anyone's enemy and given quarter. Abraham was given a sign that the sacrifice of a child was no way to worship God and God would not accept such, in fact God would supply the sacrifice, which of course God did twice. Those tribes they were ordered to wipe out mostly worshipped Molech. That god required child sacrifice in exchange for productive yields. That which destroys children is an abomination to God. We were warned about harming them in both Testaments.
We are to render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's and unto God that which is God's. It applies to more than just a coin and tax law. What this means is that adherents of faith in Christ allow secular law for the common good and obey it. Law is for order and safety. Rome had capital punishment (torture on a cross). Jesus was tried by Pilate who permitted the Sanhedrin led crowd to determine which prisoner would receive mercy. Jesus was then rendered unto Ceasar's law and God's law both dying for the first physically and fulfilling Ceasar's law, and then in resurrection defeating the second death and for us fulfilling God's law. The second death is what we call damnation.
We were also told to set ourselves apart (behavior not necessarily isolation) and to tolerate no evil among us. People confuse not enforcing law and punishment with grace. Grace is forgiveness for the sin against God. It is not excusing the consequences of violation of the state's law. Law is for domestic tranquility, protection of people and property, and it is intended to make the guilty prefer not to repeat an offense and good law protects the value of human life which is where the death penalty is the ultimate protection. Executed murderers cannot escape, or be paroled, and kill again. If God forgives them, they have life everlasting. Remember we are all under sentence of death. Those who kill only hasten that sentence. When and how it is used is the state's business, not mine, but I will state that since we have abandoned the death penalty murders have skyrocketed, which leads to citizens feeling the need to arm themselves. Fear is contrary to sanctity of life.
The OT tells us that a man who does not provide for his family's needs (which includes defense) is worse than an infidel. So, we obey God's law and man's law, and find comfort and peace in the first, and hope for justice in the second. We are not only responsible for our family's safety, but as a community everyone's safety. Those who kill and damage our neighbors do so to us. Until we make all of our neighborhoods safe, we have not met our obligation to God, our family, or our neighbors. Here is the great sin of our time. We permit criminals to prey upon the poor. Then we are shocked only when it spills over to more affluent areas.
The law protects all, or it ultimately protects none of us. Permit law to dodge criminals and law will become criminal. Selectively applied law is by its nature not law. Government and law enforcement agencies owe it to all people to apply law equally, make laws clear to all citizens, and to pursue it equally in all social groups. We are to be law abiding and to hold government and police agencies accountable to equal protection and equal application.
