If you're trying to liven up the game, I think we could do more with sound effects.... like an owl screech... perhaps one that uses speakers throughout the stadium to simulate the motion... or a 'hoot'. I think the hoot (along with some crickets) could be hilarious if timed well.... like a delay penalty on the visitors or while the umpires discuss a call or during a tv timeout... IDK. I'm not the funny one.
I think we should be more nerdy/techie... laser shows? Robot push-ups?? Maybe a drone in an owl costume sweeps across the field?? (use a helium balloon with fans to eliminate any embarrassing risk of crash?) Put a camera in the owl... show the video on the screen in real time?? You can still play Louie, but do this AFTER the immediate push button of a score reaction. You know, the second there is a score, someone pushes a button and the sound and owl are released. During that time, the Mob gathers itself... as opposed to asking them to be literally 'at the ready' for sometimes minutes, and sometimes with no pay-off afterwards. If you can't run the drone over the field, do it over the stands. The balloon principle should protect us from risk of injury from a crash... or do it above the lower seats of the now empty upper east... and make it pretty big... maybe even on a wire if necessary
Just spit-balling as I often do.
I like the LL. When I was a student we celebrated with Bonnet and push ups. LL is better.
But in the theme of celebratory noises to annoy the opposition, maybe use a loud screech? I mean really loud, as loud as a cannon shot. Something to make the opposition put their fingers in their ears.
The MOB currently plays the "Fight Song", followed by "Louie", for touchdowns.
We play "Bonnet" after field goals.
We don't have anything planned for the points added to our score by safeties by the opponent or returning a try.
"Louie Louie" has been in The MOB's book for over 40 years.
At first, the students in attendance were delirious when we played it, and wanted to hear it over and over.
Those of us with more than four years in the band got pretty tired of it.
We even wrote somewhat insulting walk-off line, announced while we played it off the field at the end of our half time show, to express our exhaustion with it.
Now I'm numb to it, and there really aren't many students coming to games to revel in it.
The students in The MOB enjoy playing it, and we still end every rehearsal with it.
As to a cannon - even staring at them firing it it still startles the crap out of me. Please, no.
An owl screech would be good.
Can the stadium PA make it as nerve-jangling as fingernails on a chalkboard?
