This would be a little less frustrating if 6 out of the other 11 schools weren’t on the next train out behind us.

Maybe it will be USM and JMU this year if nothing else. As a founding member I think things are a little different for us.

Man I hope this is wrong. If we are stuck in CUSA an additional year, it'll just about suck all the life out of the 22-23 seasons for me.

This is CUSA and Judy freaking Macleod we are dealing with here. So relax. If any of the new schools are willing and able to be in the SBC next year, they will be, irrespective of Judy's wishes or demands.

Unfortunately for me, I've written a few.

Usually I start with a boiler plate that an attorney came up with, and in some cases we've had another attorney come in, review what the original guy had and make adjustments.

Today I write a contract for Party A. In my boiler plate there are a list of conditions that must be met. Usually at the end there was a spot for me to make any clarifications or exclusions that were put into the contract. Party A has opted to sign the contract as is.

A year goes by and incomes Party B. Party B is good with the boiler plate except they don't want to be held to conditions XYZ and after some negotiating, the correct language is inserted and contact is signed.

We learned a lesson with Party B so the next time a Party comes in we discuss the condition. In walks Party C. C agrees with what B did and has other conditions that need to be addressed. Again negotiating and boom you have 3 different contracts.

Someone once said that there might've been a clause in USM's contract stating that since we were a founding member there might some things we weren't held to.

I do wonder if it all boils down to a financial thing if it doesn't happen. Hopefully we'll know soon enough.

Conferences don’t use contracts for membership.

They are governed by a constitution and bylaws. They may waive entry terms or exit terms. The special deals we hear about such as Boise’s are generally not done by contract but rather altering the constitution and bylaws to create a revenue distribution formula that is favorable, for example MWC provides for revenue from TV based on the network and TV window.

If I learned anything from this past fall it’s that the SBC holds its cards tight to its chest. I’m not really surprised there’s no news today.

The schedule was for the ADs to decide on a recommendation today and the Presidents to vote on it tomorrow. Has there been any change to that schedule?

People keep saying that but no evidence has ever been produced. It sure as hell hasn’t meant anything for us the past 20 years or so.

Selfishly, this is great to hear. The CAA released graphics showing no JMU among their ranks, so we’d be in an awkward situation scrambling for 11 to
12 games if we couldn’t go early.

Maybe Chief has some insight. He's been solid.

What gives you the impression ODU has a different contract? Couldn't it be USM or Marshall that is the holdup?

If that's true bro, this season. Is going to get ugly

RE: Y'all May Not Like This
Can C-USA literally stop the schools from leaving? The Big East had a 27 month notice requirement for West Virginia to leave. WVU left after a nine month notice. Big East leadership talked big, with then-Commissioner John Marinatto saying, "The bylaws are the bylaws are the bylaws." WVU still settled in court to get out as soon as the school year was over. Ofcourse, WVU had to pay a heavy sum to get out so early, but the Big East couldn't hold them hostage.

So is this really about whether the schools can afford the additional legal fees and all that?

Bingo!

The legal battle is not worth it. CUSA, most likely, wants all of the threes TV revenue for the year (Mostly Marshall).

MU does not want to give them its share of a Fighting Irish & App. State tv revenue.

CUSA is causing a stink. Will come down to giving CUSA the TV revenue from MU's game all year, end up in court for the next 4-5 years, stay in CUSA for the year.

My bet, they will stay to avoid any unwanted and lengthy litigation. MU "Fans" might not like it, but it's the best choice.

What? Are you trying to say that conferences get a kickback from TV money for road games? Not how that works at all.

Think the conferences make the TV deals and get paid the money. They divide the money to the schools, so maybe it is how it works. Sad but true! Now it is the schools "in" the conference that make the TV deals lucreative for the networks.

I don’t think it’s a question of whether or not the other schools can afford it but whether or not it’s fair/equitable and not overly punitive especially if there’s precedent for concessions to the bylaws in other instances of schools exiting the conference early.

RE: Y'all May Not Like This
I’m surprised by the general sentiment in this thread of not believing CUSA would let everyone go early. It’s a matter of survival for them. They have five current members who would be able to stay. Of everyone left at tue end of this season. Of those coming in, all belong to a different conference on other sports. Liberty football can come in easily enough, but they have commitments in other sports. Some are easy to break or reschedule, other sports aren’t as lucky. NMSU has similar constraints. SHSU and JSU need the time to move up from FCS.

I get that lost on the board here don’t care about CUSA’s plight, but they do. They value their auto bids and schedules. As such, they can’t let everyone go and not suffer. Therefore they are holding the departing schools to their obligations.

And these would have been the same obligations for UTA and Little Rock, but the SBC waived those requirements to get us out. CUSA is not able to do the same.
