Adopted Monarch, your bravado statement and apparent actions do not demonstrate much respect for others. I suspect there are characteristics or behaviors of others less or not harmful to fellow citizens that you don’t mind government controlling since you object to them… Sorry for my posting format… bit of a Luddite, here…

You have no need to apologize. Opinions are fine - - and you are in very good company being dismayed by mine.

But if you think that this should only ever be a only a one-way conversation, well that is not so fine. (Although you unfortunately will still have lots of company on this site.)

Yes. Yes. And yes.

And so what’s your point? That we need to return to forced masking? I hope not.

Be aware that you are not going to again make me wear a mask, except when visiting my dad. Not by force. Not by fiat. Not by public shaming.

You are welcome to stay clear of my place of business. I promise that I will not follow you around the supermarket. And I will respect your desire for social distancing.

Can I expect a corresponding level of respect?
Be assured my intention is not to public shame anyone. Nor do I want to become involved in a back and forth discussion on masks, the virus, etc. That said, I admit to being confused. You said you would wear a mask around your father to prevent him from possibly becoming infected. That shows respect towards your father. Yet, you will not wear a mask in public when around me, for example. That, to me, shows lack of respect towards me. That's all I will say on the subject, other than I hope we all stay safe and healthy in the days ahead.

I'll wear a mask in highly congested places. I wont wear a mask if i am in Home Depot and I can maintain my distance. If I'm sneezing, sore throat, etc., I'm not going out. If I'm one on one with someone somewhere inside, I'll wear a mask out of respect.

Fair response. I do not foresee a situation in which you and I will be spending any quality assisted-living room time together. But if that does occur, I will wear a mask for you.

Doctors operating on you, he wears a mask for you, not him. A person who's sneezes covers their face for you, not them. I still don't know how a virus so small, can be so politicize. It's just 0.125 microns, it doesn't care who you voted for, your race, your religion.

You guys are relentless. (I know, I know - - pot/kettle.)

Nevertheless, you’ve also made a very fair response, DaBig. If I am performing surgery on you, I promise will wear a mask. And, b.t.w., I pride myself on my skill at sneezing into my elbow (never my hand).

I gave lockdowns and masking the 2 weeks asked of me to flatten the curve. Then I gave it another two months beyond that. Then I gave it a full year, on the expectation that maybe, just maybe, political change was what this all about. I’ve been wrong every time.

I’m sorry, posters. I’ve got no more to give.

It's the person who continues to drive drunk, it's the person who refuses to wear a seat belt, it's the person who refuses to accept science and get vaccinated or wear a mask. Charles Darwin has the answer for them, Survival of the fittest will always win out. The politicize of a virus is making some people very wealthy.

Great article stating that N95 masks block out 95% of airborne particles. Thanks for sharing.

Had that same thing ..super super fatigue right before Christmas. In addition My daughter and I just now got over Covid Again . Both had it last December 2020. I’m vaccinated too. The head ache thing still lingers and has been . Early morning then around dinner time - mainly upper sinus type headaches. Still durable as ever and push through life

LMAO now us who haven't taken the shot are compared to drunk drivers...

You've really taken this next level but when you start wishing death to people, its really not cute. Now comparing people to drunk drivers...

Think this outfit would serve you best the rest of the year :)

No we need the unvaccinated to vaccinate to keep the burden off of our Hospitals. Personally, I wish Hospitals could just turn away sick covid patients who are not vaccinated and let them die. I bet that would get shots in the arm, if not Natural Selection do your thing.

I liked my chances even before I took the first jab. I really like them now, even without masks.

No problem. It is clear that the cloth masks most of us wear are absurdly ineffective. Honestly, we should have known this for a while, especially since the CDC has never recommended masks against a virus before.

Now, my biggest fear is that because COVID is the only thing the powers that be care about, they are going to start trying to make us wear N95 masks forever.

Here is a good study that shows constant masking has negative side effects from a physical health standpoint (not to mention the mental health side). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8072811/

And how many people do you see wearing N95 masks to the grocery store or just out and about? Are they properly fitted and not being re-used to maintain that 95% effectiveness? my guess would be less than half probably closer to less than a quarter.
Cloth mask are nowhere near that effective and that's what the greatest number of people use.

Since we have reached the point where anyone that would've gotten COVID from the bowl would have hopefully recovered from it, and the topic has kinda moved into a different direction, I think it would be a good idea if this got moved to the OT board proper.

Suspect the 9 year old will get it tonight. It's either covid or just your run of the mill 24 hour stomach bug. But I'm not going to go sit for 8 hours at a doctors office for symptoms that blew through us in 24 hours and weren't terrible. Just going to lay low for a week or 2.

Sounds like a norovirus. My brothers fiancé and her daughter went through that this week and live in Richmond. My brother had Covid before XMas, vaccinated not boosted and he was definitely in the hurt locker for most of the week. Flu like symptoms but main complaint was severely sore throat. Dr called in some steroids, lidocaine and antibiotics after a few days and he turned around pretty quickly after that.

Office manager came in Monday coughing and sounding like ****, boss made her go home and get tested, came back positive today.

I feel like Neo dodging bullets in the Matrix trying not to get this ****.

As with all pandemics, a good chunk of people will likely never get it because they are immune for whatever reason (genetics?). I hope I fall in that category. I haven't really done anything to avoid it other than take the vaccine (that doesn't seem to work), have lived my life as normally as I could from day 1, and haven't so much as put on a mask since last May.
If you choose not to wear a mask and you are asymptomatic, don't you run the risk of infecting others at work, the supermarket, etc.? I mean, what happens when you sneeze or even when you're speaking? If you are asymptomatic aren't you spreading the virus around and possibly infecting others in those instances?

I don't know the answers for sure, but I do know that thought process is going to have to change if we are ever going to function correctly again. If I'm not feeling well, I stay home, but walking around assuming I'm sick when I'm not is not healthy or sustainable in my opinion. Anyone out and about is assuming the risk of picking up a virus whether I have a mask on or not.

The virus seems to be doing just fine regardless of geography and mask mandates. If I thought they were effective, I'd wear one. If it were still mandated, I'd reluctantly wear it where I had to. But I don't do theater.
