This sucks for Cinci. I sincerely hope that he turns down ND but I know that's a pipe dream.

If he goes to ND, Freeman needs to be hired IMMEDIATELY... like, within two hours.

The bright side is this: when your program is losing coaches to ND, Ohio State, etc you have a great program. Cinci will be just fine.

Luke is really sitting in a great situation at UC. I can see the attraction of ND or OU but I can also see the peril in those jobs.

Maybe, but he better at least lie and say something publicly because UC is about to lay at huge egg on Saturday. I hope Houston fans enjoy the fiesta bowl

Yeah. The players are all going to give up to NOT have a chance at the playoffs. 03-banghead 01-wingedeagle

I'm mostly joking but you can't deny stuff like this can affect a team/locker room

This is a senior laden Cincy squad, I wouldn’t think they would be affected. I think they win handily. However, if they are down heavily in the third quarter and rumors start circulating around the bench that the assistant coaches are gone too, then that’s where it can get discombobulated fast.

Yep. Having USC, Florida, Oklahoma, LSU and possibly ND wanting to possibly hire your coach is ultimately a sign of good things.

Sorry about this Cincy fans. There isn't a destination job anymore, and it is just money at this point. So happy UCONN hired Jim Mora early vs. being part of this mess, and it is already paying dividends.

Well end up with the best current G5 HC or the best up and coming guy in the business who recruited 3/4 of the roster as a new HC. I’m not that worried about it beyond it being a distraction.

College football sucks now. I would hope that Fickell has the decency to finish the job he started here if we win on Saturday and make the CFP. If he has the integrity I think he does, his agent will tell Notre Dame or anyone else "he's not talking to anyone until either after the AAC championship game if they lose, or the final CFP rankings show if they win." If we lose or miss the playoff and he takes the ND job, so be it. If we are in the CFP and Notre Dame is still interested, then they'll have to wait until after our season is completed. I really can't imagine Fickell abandoning the team or focusing on anything other than winning the games in front of him before the season is over, but stranger things have happened. If he's gone, Marcus Freeman is getting offered the next day. Freeman will be here 3 years tops, but he'll keep things rolling and hopefully pass the reigns to someone who will stay long term like our OC (and former star QB), Gino Guidugli.

UCF got Frost to do it with only a NY6 game, I believe Fickell will play it out.

Was early signing day as big of a deal as it is now, and was it in mid-December that year? I thought that was a fairly recent change, but I can't remember the exact timing. Fickell also stuck around at OSU to be their DC in the CFP when he left for UC, so that would also bode well for us if he leaves.

Notre Dame won't let Fickell coach out the rest of the season if they want to hire him. The ESD is right around the corner and they need to begin recruiting immediately to try to stabilize their class. Fickell is either the coach of ND by next week or he isn't. That's why I think Marcus Freeman actually has a good shot at getting the job.

I also think it will be much harder for Fickell to leave if Cincy makes it to the playoffs. The Bearcats may literally be playing for their coach on Saturday.

Just don't get yourself into a Compher and Mo situation. Your AD is smart enough not to.

The difference with ND recruiting than other colleges is most of the recruits actually want to come to ND. The coach is important, but I feel that most will not transfer or new recruits change. There will be a few, but I think not as many as other schools.

The whole "Brian Kelly to LSU" thing is the weirdest "fit" I could ever imagine. BK is a total "Yankee." And he's going down to the Bayou.

I think this is Brian Kelly "getting paid." He'll last 3-5 years (max) and walk away from the business a rich, rich man.

But I struggle to see how this ends well for either BK or LSU.

Time will tell, I guess.

Well the last 3 coaches who have been at LSU won a national championship. Do what you will with that knowledge though.

College football is going downhill, quick. NIL, losing rivalries to realignment (Bedlam and the admittedly new War on I4 the most recent), explosion of TV contracts and coach payment, transfer portal…. none of this seems sustainable long-term.

This, 100%. Short-term greed is ruining the sport. The long-term effects of the past 10 years of money grabbing has yet to be felt, but it's turning a lot of longtime fans away from FBS football.
