Traveling to UTEP and Florida really put you guys in the red, because that's the only real geographic difference between C-USA 3.0 and future Sun Belt?

I think during the USM presser they mentioned saving ~$400k/yr in travel in the SBC west.
I don't know the specifics but App anticipates saving serious cash in the new SBC east with less western travel y2y.

I think USM might gain a few more close opponents.
Before they had LaTech as a relatively close opponent.
Now they have ULM, UL, Troy, and USA. stAte isn't crazy far either. Texas State is a bit of a haul, but it beats having UTSA, UNT, UTEP, and Rice in your division for travel. Heck, many of the teams in the SBC east are going to be as close to USM as the Texas teams were.

Correct. Between $400K-500K difference per year according to our athletic director.

Do they play multiple games over a weekend. Several teams travel together. What is the max distance that you bus?
It’s impossible. That’s the problem. ODU playing teams in TX is foolish.

Not to mention playing teams who can travel to our games. UAB and Tech brought some fans. But, UAB will be gone too. The new CUSA is also much more spread out than the Belt. And now our entire side of the new conference will be within 5 hours- sans Texas State. And a lot of these fans will travel for baseball too.
Decreased expenses. Potentially increased revenues.

We were discussing at the last game about the city of Hattiesburg with more visitors from other teams coming in for hotels or restaurants. Visiting bands coming in…the Pine Belt wins.

How do Universities in CUSA save on travel
Even Michigan State is trying to save on travel funds, if even by one bus ride.

I'm conflicted. I hope it works out for Southern Miss. because that's how much I respect their program (all sports). However, at the same time I'm hoping I can say I told you so in about 5 years. Regardless, I hope we're sharing a conference together in the near future.

4 Texas teams in current CUSA, 2 Texas teams and 1 New Mexico team in future CUSA. 1 in the Sun Belt (UTA is leaving).

I hope Texas St. or UTA ends up hosting the Sunbelt basketball tournament just to piss off ODU fans. I've never been to the Texas St. basketball arena, but UTA has a first class facility. I went to a game there in 2013, our last year in the WAC. Their facility is top notch, arguably the nicest one in the current Sunbelt.

Where is UTA going? Sunbelt going to kick them out like they did Idaho and New Mexico St.
Karma will rear it's ugly head soon.

Like I said, ends up hosting. It'll not be in Pensacola, FL forever. If it does stay on the east coast that should insult the western teams in the SBC. I think they care about basketball too, I know Texas St. does. They should host the Sunbelt basketball tournament after Pensacola imo.

Pensacola is 400 miles closer than Frisco for ODU. That's going to save them a ton of cash.

Fine with me. They have a beautiful arena. You say that like it wouldn't still be an upgrade over CUSA's

Right now it looks to be an upgrade. We'll have to see how it plays out though. The power definitely rests in the east for the SBC now. I'll miss playing ODU for sure. Our basketball games were legendary. Hopefully we can still schedule OOC games in men's and women's basketball. Hell, add the baseball too. Your guys were a hoot during the CUSA baseball tournament last year in Ruston.
