How do Universities in CUSA save on travel?

Do they play multiple games over a weekend. Several teams travel together. What is the max distance that you bus?
Save? On travel?

No you give your players pads from 10 years ago and old uniforms

Save? On Travel?

You cancel your season screwing over the rest of the conference even though other state schools in one's state's played their seasons.
Zoom?
Traditionally for basketball we use travel partners with games on Thursday and Saturday. The only travel partners that require a flight from point A to point B is UTSA to UTEP (or vice versa)

As far as bus/flying that is usually up to the school doing the traveling. For USM olympic sports we generally will bus up to 7 hours as the nearest commercial airport to us is over an hour away. By the time we would bus to the airport for 75-100 minutes and be there 90 minutes prior to check in, take the hour or so flight, takes another 30-45 minutes to de-board and claim luggage, then bus to the school/arena we could be to the location shortly afterwards. And then when the game is over we're not having to wait until the next day to fly home.

USM non football sports usually bus to La Tech, UAB, MTSU, WKU, Rice and UNT. Fly to UTSA, UTEP, FIU, FAU, Charlotte, ODU and Marshall

I believe a few years ago we flew to Marshall and played there, took a bus to WKU (4 hours) where we had our own bus company meet the team and bus back home (6hr 45m) after the Saturday game. Had we flew back home it would've been another night of hotels and meals, then due to flights it would've had us getting back to campus late Sunday afternoon/evening. As it turned it we were back home shortly after midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning
We travel by horses to most of our away games.
Cancel a football season when Covid presents an opportunity to do so? 07-coffee3
USM spent all their money a few years ago on a beam like on Star Trek and we just beam our folks from point A to point B. Only problem is we started doing this at the end of 2019 and we were told there might be repercussions for doing so. Nothing bad happened in 2020 right?

That would be pretty damn cool, though......... at least to Las Cruces

If it's Amtrak, you might consider the horses.
Historically, smaller conferences had to either be condensed enough such that travel is simplistic, or the conference would be farther flung with several schools in a league being travel partners. Schools in this latter option would often travel together and save on expenses by sharing the load. They might travel to another pair of travel partners and play two games for the price of one on the trip. For non-revenue sports, this is how teams can make travel work in a far-flung league.

In football, schools are more independently responsible for travel. However, the conference may be divided into divisions to make the travel less widespread. It ultimately depends on the conference setup that will determine whether travel costs are too great.

I suppose it wouldnt matter if i say for the freaking umpteenth time that Hampton Roads area was under different restrictions than most of the state and only programs that are from Hampton Roads area are effected by that BS so yeah ODU, Norfolk State and Hampton all universities that play in the 757 had to cancel their seasons or face the wrath of the state. 07-coffee3

Well I do believe this clears it all up. Lock the thread. I had no idea how the conference was organized to minimize cost as much as possible. Thank you.

A state institution generally doesn't follow local mandates.
