No offense guys but it looks like maybe 60% of capacity. Granted that 60% of your arena is 400% of ours.
Population of Edinburg is 400,000 and you can't even fill your 2,500 seat high school gym while Las Cruces has a population of 102,000 and got 8,000 fans tonight and over 5,000 for our season opener from Tuesday. Keep talking at least we didn't get embarrassed tonight like you guys did.
Population of Edinburg is 101,000
The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metro area is more like 800,000, probably a bit more once the 2020 census numbers are released. I hate to concede any points to KingAllison but he's correct that we should be pulling much larger crowds.
He's also correct that we got a thorough spanking at Arizona. Given CSU's 2-0 start there is a real danger we'll end up dead last in the WAC. The only team I see as a "peer" right now is Lamar, and even that is untested.
If it’s metro areas that count isn’t LC in the El Paso metro area? Over 1mil

That's true, and a good portion of their crowd last night probably drove up from El Paso. Looks like 5000 is their real draw for an out of town team. Still there's no denying that 5000 > 1000.

Las Cruces is not part of El Paso at all. Plus El Paso is UTEP country and UTEP fans don't travel down to the NMSU game anyone because they're tired of watching UTEP get their butts kicked. NMSU has dominated UTEP in basketball over the last 10 years.

Actually that is false. Maybe at the most there were 100 or 200 UTEP fans at the game.

RE: WAC MBB Week #1
NMSU's base fans support is approximately 4,500-5,000 per game. In games of interest, that can rise between 8,000-10,000 easily. With some marketing (and low ticket prices) NMSU can even pack the Pan American Center once or twice a year. But Las Cruces doesn't have the type of economy that allows most families to have the expendable income to go to every Aggie game... Football... Basketball... etc. However, all things being equal, NMSU draws better in basketball than most places around the country. I'm happy if NMSU can keep the PAC a little more than half filled (over 6,500) on average.

The nmsu/UTEP game looked super slow. UTEP is definitely not the team Golding had last year with ACU. Guards are lazy. So is 0 for nmsu.

Looked to me like NMSU had a more forceful defense than UTEP. UTEP has not yet gotten the level of defensive pressure they need. They were slow to close gaps and did not get nearly enough take-aways. NMSU looked stronger.

Calmate, Coach Allison, the UTRGV fan was not talking trash, just stating a fact. We still can draw a larger crowd than 8k for a Borderland rivalry matchup. Cruces and El Paso may not be the same city but calling them the same metro area is completely reasonable. We shop there, eat there, work there, fly out of there, have family there and many many El Pasoans go to State.
As for this Tarleton payaso, I will not defend him.

I think UTEP has equal to better talent than ACU right now. However, Golding (and Tanner) had a lot of time (years) to work with ACU's current players. For the Wildcats, Golding/Tanner's defense is second nature. They don't think, they just do. Their reaction time is quick. Right now, UTEP's players are still trying to grasp Golding's system. So, there is still a hesitation in their rotations and close outs. Also, it takes a certain type of player to fit into Golding's system. UTEP might have a few players who might not have the motor Golding requires. It will take a season to weed out his roster. But as this season progresses (and if the players continue to buy-in after taking a few lumps along the way) UTEP will start to look more like the ACU team.
As one Aggie poster says on the Aggie board, its a process of Storming, Forming, Norming, and Performing. Right now, UTEP is between the Storming and Forming phase. Whereas NMSU is solidly in the Forming phase; waiting for it full compliment of players to get healthy. ACU is in the norming phase working toward the performing phase.

Good analysis... The system does take time. I watched the Texas-Gonzaga game and Texas has not yet adopted Beard's version of basketball either. It takes time and the right players just as you say.

It’s been apparent from this post and many of his others that IllustrativeTexan knows absolutely nothing about basketball.

If both schools can keep their coaches when we join CUSA. These games will be a war. Utep will improve a lot with this coach.

RE: WAC MBB Week #1
Stephen F Austin dropped a home game to South Dakota State to 83-71. They were playing the Jackrabbits neck and neck until about the 6-minute mark of the second half. Then they went on a 5-minute draught to close the game; and South Dakota State won the game going away. Serve has now been broken against the WAC; our first home lose. Disappointing.
It looks like SFA is missing a GO-TO guy when they absolutely need points; the player they had in Cameron Johnson a season ago. Up to this point, Jackson-Posey hasn't been the answer for replacing Johnson. Moor hasn't made an immediate impact. And Nigel Hawkins has yet to play. Is Hawkins injured? Scoring depth appears to be another issue with SFA. Right Now, Kensmil is carrying the team and he alone is not enough.

Seattle handled Idaho State tonight at Climate Pledge 77-51.it's. Wow, did it look empty. Attendance was listed as 2300. I didn't watch the final 10 minutes, but in most of the game, neither team looked particularly great.
It was homecoming weekend at Seattle U, so the crowd may have actually been a little larger because of that.

I highly doubt there were more than 1,500 in a seat watching the game. It was depressing having SU in that beautiful arena and not have more ppl in person watching the game.

SDSU isn’t a bad loss for SFA, IMO. The Summit looks to be decent this year, outside of Denver and UST.
Hope Seattle figures it out.

If I counted correctly, the WAC went 17 - 11 for the week. Lost a few games to mid tier conferences that the WAC needed to win to improve the conference ranking, but for the most part the WAC won the games it was supposed to and played decently against the power conferences.
