Week 12 SBC Power Ranking
1) Louisiana- good performance against solid Troy defense. Love him or hate him, QB Lewis knows how to lead his team and wins games.

2) App State- Most dominant team in the East. Did what they had to do vs USA

3) CCU- After absolutely buzzsawing OOC opponents, Coastal has found some trouble during the meaty part of SBC East schedule. A not-so-close loss to App State, close win vs Troy, and a close loss to GSU that's probably your average-ish SBC team to be honest. While the offensive scheme is dynamic as anyone in the FBS, defense has disappointed at times.

4) Troy- Statistically solid defensive unit. QB Watson is a veteran talent who can lead this team.

5) USA- another 5 win team in the cusp of bowl eligibility. Defense can hold up well as indicated on the stat sheet. The offense can be dangerous at times. The promising transfer QB is injured however, can the backup QB Trotter make enough plays to have one more inspiring win?

6) ULM- future is bright under Bowden and Rodriguez. Refreshing to see ULM be instantly competitive. Maximizing the talents they have to compete at the mid tier level SBC football. Huge improvements which I truly enjoyed watching this year. Some solid wins in the resume this season.

7) Ark State- they're aliveeeeee. The QB is an absolute baller with good skilled players around. The defense is steadily improving. Should be motivate for another win versus GSU next week! Really concerned about Ark State offense carving huge chunks of yards...potential win streak alert?

8) GSU- finally closed out a win...after Auburn? Louisiana? I guess 3rd time was the charm. Still have some concerns. Like our bend but dont break scheme with prevent (win) defense.

9a) TXST- I refuse to change my stance that this team has some talents and they play hard every week for Spavital. Had some wins that slipped away. They'll be better next year.

9b) GS- 9 and 10 can be interchangeable. Both teams have more talents than their records indicates. Kids still playing hard. I'm keeping an eye on GS/App game where GS will play up the their best potential.

Don't get these two picks at all.

1. UL (undefeated)
2. App (close win over Coastal at home)
3. Coastal (not a big difference in the top 3, really)
4. Georgia State (Seems like the obvious #4 to me)
5. Troy (by the win over South)
6. South Alabama
7. Georgia Southern
8. Texas State
9. Arkansas State
10. ULM

I have doubts about GSU because of the QB limbo. CSE whiffed badly on Quad Brown and has to find our new starter for next year. For Darren Grainger's credit, he's doing a decent job managing the offense and not turning over the ball. And of course, the bend-but-dont-break defense is raising my blood pressure every weekend. Blew 2 other ranked wins in the last drive with prevent defense. Not a fan of this Nate Woody defensive scheme at times.

GS, I don't know where to rank you guys. You probably have more accurate gauge on the Eagles' overall season. Certainly justified to rank higher than TXST and Ark State. QB Tomlin might be the weakest link at the most important position that weighs down the overall offense. Defense is still pretty stout at times.

You have us slotted too low. We should be somewhere between 4-7.

At the top, not like last year. But top to bottom this league is solid!

What??? You are downplaying app’s win over CCU. And you are also downplaying CCU’s 2nd loss. And you are also downplaying the fact that UL has beat not only App, but Ga St, and now Troy.

Add it all up and there is in fact a pretty ‘big difference’ between us and App (now beat them twice in a row, with the last one a complete blow-out), and there is also a pretty ‘big difference’ between App and CCU.

Good chance we'll have three teams with 10 wins, which was mind blowing when it happened a couple years ago. Two teams have been ranked as well. We're all too jaded now to be happy about that.

Agreed. Although we need the west to step it up, overall a pretty good showing so far.

I think the obvious thing is the number of P5 wins compared to the last few years. Two more chances though.

If we're comparing scores, you guys squeaked by us, South Alabama, Georgia State, and Ark State. App has beaten 3 of those teams convincingly and unfortunately might make it 4 in a couple of weeks. I'm rooting for you guys to finally get that outright title but you can't tell me you can have high confidence if you played App in the SBCCC in Lafayette this week it'd be a repeat of the last game.

One more thing...App and UL haven't had to deal with it a whole lot the last few seasons but in the era of the transfer portal it's harder to keep a serviceable backup QB.

1. Wins matter. Scores really don’t.
2. Its a coaching staff’s job to ensure a deep roster. Failure to do so is a failure of that coach/program. Period.

I was mimicking ESPN's NFL Power Ranking with season-long evaluations up to whatever week it is.

RE: Week 12 SBC Power Ranking
1. Louisiana - Laffyette - continues to win unconvincingly

2. App State - continues to win in convincing fashion. Turnovers are becoming a major concern. If App wants to win a conference championship, they will not have room for the same mistakes we continue to see. Ref's have been terrible in every conference game I've watched so far. Every App opponent stays relatively scotch free while App has several penalties called. I can't be convinced they play that much cleaner.

3. Georgia State - was blown out by App but played Louisiana to a close game and beat Coastal. The win against Coastal may not have come with McCall at the helm but, and a big but, it was Georgia State's offense that has began to play at a high level.

4. Coastal - I figured that they would take a step back when everyone of their opponents had the same practice time to prepare and they have. Their defense lost them the game. Perhaps McCall gives Georgia State some less advantageous situations on offense but you can't give up 42 points and expect to win.

5. Troy - Talented, undercoached
6. USA - Talented, very good defense and offense. I'm still puzzled as to how they only scored one touchdown against App.

7. Georgia Southern - Seems Helton may have asked to see more passing or Southern's staff decided to do it themselves. It seems like it's working. I wonder if they are trying to install some of Helton's offense during the week to see some basic plays and where players fit. Seems a Fritz type of offense may be what Helton tries to adopt. I could be totally wrong.

8. Arkansas State - well coached team who hasn't given up despite their record. Surprised Wyatt didn't play this week.

9. ULM - Punched above their weight class mid-season, they have fallen off as of late.

10. Texas State - Spavital may be done? Talented, undercoached team with a questionable recruiting strategy. Whomever is hired next will need to recruit high school players and that will take a few years.
