RE: Other football games
A&M Commerce was blown out at Senior Night at Angelo State, 30-3.

https://www.gosanangelo.com/story/sports...327153001/

Quote:ASU snapped a six-game losing streak against Commerce, dating back to 2014.

The (ASU) Rams entered the game as the No. 1 offense in the LSC and Commerce had the top-ranked defense.

ASU's defense was ranked No. 2 in the LSC, but the Rams looked liked the top dogs Saturday night. ...

One statistic that really catches your eye is that the Rams collected 30 first downs and the Lions moved the chains only three times. ...

Possession time was in favor of Commerce (31:11 to 27:48), but it didn't translate into many points on the scoreboard. ...

Commerce quarterback Miklo Smalls, the LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, led the Lions to a 17-3 win against ASU in San Angelo two years ago, but he was just 9 of 15 for 76 yards, no TDs and one interception Saturday.

"He's a heck of a player," (ASU head coach Jeff) Girsch said of the Lions QB. "To do what we did to him and their offensive weapons, it just shows you how talented we are on defense and our kids believe it. They buy into it and we're playing our best football that we've ever played right now and I'm just so excited to keep moving forward." ...

"They're a really good football team," Girsch said, tipping his hat to Lions head coach David Bailiff and his staff. "They've won a lot of games over the years."

Hiring Sark was the hardest move for me to understand in the off-season. All I can figure is some big money guy rubbed Mensa the wrong way, and Mensa can be a bit prickly and told him to f-k off, so the guy went to Chris and told him to fire Mensa and hire Sark. Chris got caught between a rock and a hard place, and he is a guy who tends to follow the money.

Saban pisses off big money folks all the time, in fact I think he kind of enjoys it, and they keep writing checks because he wins big. Mensa didn't won big enough to get away with it.

I think Tuscaloosa and Austin may be two of the hardest places to coach, because the heavy hitter alumni are so meddlesome. Bryant dealt with it up front when he went to Bama. Fred Sington and Jimmy Hinton and some of the other heavy hitter alumni who had bought him out of his aTm contract held a big welcome breakfast. Each of the donors got up in turn, handed Bryant a check, and talked about what they wanted to see Bama football become. Finally Bryant got up and said, "Gentlemen, thank you for your generosity. I can assure you that we will put it to good use. But let me be clear--I don't give a f-k what any of you think we need to do." They knew he was in charge from then on, and they accepted it. Austin is maybe tougher because most of the heavy hitters played there and were outstanding players, mostly under Royal.

I figure when patience with Sark starts to run thin, there will start to be stories about his getting drunk on 6th Street.

Hey ut, Mike Bloomgren is a available.

Mid third quarter

Florida 42
Samford 42

The seat is getting really hot for Dan Mullen.

Firing his DC not looking like the right move.

Now 56-49, Florida, 14 minutes left in 4th. The calls for Mullen to be fired at the half have proliferated. I think he might be available for us if we wanted to go that way. I don't.

Also, the Pirate coming back at Auburn, now 23-28 in the 4th, with Mississippi State driving.

Baylor just put Oklahoma away. 24-7, under 4 minutes to go.

And the Pirate takes the lead at Auburn, 29-28.

Texas Tech responding well to having a new head coach named mid-season even though he won’t assume
Head coaching responsibilities until after the season is over.

5-4 TT 31
6-3 Iowa St 14

with 5:17 to play in 3Q in Lubbock.

RE: Other football games
Baylor beats OU 27-14 in a game that their students (including my daughter) rushed the field twice. Apparently, BU calls timeout with 3 seconds left and no one realized it right away so they rushed the field. After they finally cleared the field, Baylor attempts a field goal (which they claim they had to do because it was the 3rd tie-breaker in case the conference has multiple two loss teams). After they made the FG, they rushed the field a second time.

OU was pissed but who cares. I would like to know what the 1st two tie-breakers are, and if the 3rd tie-breaker would actually come into play.

UTSA holds off an upset-minded (and QB injury-depleted) USM team. They are now just 1 of 3 undefeated teams, but barely beating a USM team that ran the ball the entire game wasn't a good effort. They need to do a lot better than that against WKU.

Lubbock's a great place for kicking long, game-winning field goals ... Am I right, Hambone? :-)

I was told on here that when we lost to Texas 58-0 in a game that could’ve easily been 120-0 if they wanted it to be, not to worry about it, because Texas was elite, going to win the Big 12, etc.

4-5 and down 35-14 at half at home to KANSAS

Now 42-21. TexasU defense looks pathetic.

TexasU ties it at 49 to force overtime, but KU wins 57-56.

Whorns now 4-6, have to go to West Virginia and host K-State. 4-8 is definitely in play. That's not the result that Sark was hired to produce. Just think, if they lose both (and both are in play) and if KU beats either TCU or WVU in their last two (highly unlikely, but at least possible), Whorns would finish last in the XII.

I looked it up. Tiebreakers in Big 12 are head-to-head in a 3-way tie, and then you basically look at who your losses are going down the standings. The only way there would be a 3-way tie is if OU loses at home to Iowa State and then beats Oklahoma State, or State loses at Tech and then beats OU (with Baylor winning its final two vs Kansas State and Tech).

But even in that 3-way tie scenario, Baylor is going to have the worst loss with its loss at TCU.

In other words, Aranda didn't need to take the timeout.

My daughter was embarrassed she went on the field twice, but she wasn't alone. The students won't get in trouble, but Baylor is going to get a hefty fine from the Big 12 office.
