What I thought I heard CK say is that the SB was giving us 600K to help with the transition. Maybe that's part of normal conference distributions but it wasn't clear to me. If it's provided before 7/1/22 then I'd have to think it's some sort of a donation.

The Sun Belt is on the rise as well as the MAC. CUSA is decimated and AAC is now the old CUSA. I believe the Sun Belt got it right just like the MAC with mid-week games that ESPN values and pays for. The CUSA TV deal was trash. Sun Belt has always mirrored the MAC TV deals and money but slightly less, but I believe the way the Sun Belt has played lately on the field and with the new additions will have them with parity with the MAC. The MAC currently makes $24 million per year from ESPN ($2 million per school) and is set to be $2.5 million each in a couple years under the existing contract. The MAC has always said we won't expand unless it raises revenue so I believe we are negotiating an extension with ESPN now that we are expanding with Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee U and our TV deal will be closer to $3.5 million per school. And I believe the Sun Belt and JMU will see similar numbers ahead.
Haven't been here in a while... just curious.. whatever happened to "The Ghost of ECU AD" poster? That ghost still around? I miss the old days of the old thread that had a million+ views where JMU almost joined the MAC with UMASS.

Man did I slap the sh!t out of Mturn with my financial projections. The exact percentage gave by our boy Charlie earlier this morning! For those tracking, Mturn still hasn't provided proof of their $100 donation to the Duke Club.

I've been enjoying retirement more and more as I get older. Some of the fondest moments are when my colleagues and friends take the next big step in their journey. While your leader, Jon Boy Alger, has rejected my offers of partnership many times over the years, I still am proud to see James Madison University finally take its rightful place in Division 1 FBS collegiate tackle football. I did not take his slights personally as I knew that he was out of his element and knew not what he was doing. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses and his shortcomings just happen to be in the arena of athletics. Hats off to the alumni and the persistence of Jeffrey Bourne for constantly pressuring Jon Boy to do the right thing. Your will to overturn Jon Boy's wrong thinking and have him concede to the will of JMU Nation is impressive from afar. You did it!
Selfishly, I would have loved to welcome you to the AAC along with Marshall, ODU, and Southern Miss. That would have been the premier G5 conference ongoing and it would have been everything ECU could ask for. in terms of regional, like-minded programs mixed with national, highly invested programs. Unfortunately, our 8 university Presidents and Chancellors voted to protect our existing revenue by finding 6 schools willing to accept much lower annual payouts of $2 MM while the original members kept our annual payouts much higher than that. While none of the 6 new programs raise the profile of the AAC, I do have to be thankful that they are allowing us to maintain the highest level of media revenue outside of the P5 conferences. Sometimes, money just matters more than anything else in business decisions.
Going forward, perhaps the JMU Nation can lead your decision makers to the next big step of your journey. If you are interested, I will do my very best to bring you into the fold with the next iteration of the AAC which could have a lot of similarities to our shared affiliations of the past. Think about our years together in the ECAC South and what that would look like on the gridiron - ECU, JMU, ODU, Navy. Mix in a few former Southern Conference schools like Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Marshall and you have what we all want with a close kinship off the field and a heated rivalry on the field every week.
Greater things are yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this cityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Enjoy and celebrate today as you embark on a fantastic voyage into division 1 FBS collegiate tackle football.
p.s. if you need a home and home series, we are now willing to listen to your offers.
Your Buddy, Terry Holland
Good “Buddy” glad you’re alive and enjoying retirement. Don’t forget to take your dementia meds.
I guess Liberty found a conference dysfunctional enough to accept them.
Does Liberty have any regional opponents they can drive to or their fans?
Their closest opponent is MTSU I believe. That's over a 7 hour drive. Yikes.
They do have a history of playing New Mexico State. I believe they played them twice in a single season.
Hard to imagine these schools are saving money with travel costs. Very spread out conference.
Making decisions based on desperation is always a bad move.

I just re-watched that bit of the presentation (timestamp of around 10:46:30 if you want to see it for yourself) and CK never mentions media rights being part of the 2.5m. Only cites CFP expansion as the reason for the increase over 1.5m. Based on what I saw on the SB board it sounds like that number is in line what has been published elsewhere as far as SB revenue from expansion. If that's true, then it almost seems like CK didn't even address there being an increase in media rights revenue. Maybe it was on the spreadsheet for their calculations, but didn't want to explicitly speak about it if it's still considered close hold information for contract/negotiation purposes.

Welcome back!
It had been a while for the ghost, but look in page 322.
...Wait, you both come back at the same time? Holy Scooby Doo! That's no ghost, it was Miami all along!
Anyway, let's set up a game between our teams now that we can.

Travel and lack of rivals is going to be painful for that conference. I think LU would of been better to stay as an independent. I guess they just wanted to be accepted by someone.

Based on CK specifically bringing up football playoffs, and the audits breaking out the conference distributions and media revenue into seperate lines (which I'll assume was the same P&L structure as the pro formas they were reviewing to keep it simple and in a format the state is use to seeing), and CK never mentioning "media" - I also believe they are two different amounts and that the projected Sun Belt media revenue amount is still unknown publically.
