Really? Consolidation is what FBS really needs, not adding FCS crap.
All this will do is hasten a split by the major schools.

And honestly, what network will pay for this amalgamation?

The G4 or G5 should split. This is turning into a power joke anyway.
If they do the NCAA tourney ratings will go way down. We love the upsets. They don't even need to leave. They NCAA doesn't really have any power over them anyway. I doubt they care If Missouri St. or SFA coming up from FCS dilutes their FBS, because it doesn't, they don't have to play them.

I actually think the P5 would be fine with FCS call-ups. It's not like their cut of the playoff money or good bowl tie in. ESPN is happy with the bigger FBS more choice for the lower tier bowls and option to potentially create another one for a increased ad revenue for them.

P5 gain potential weaker FBS teams for fan bases get easier early season wins. There's probably hopes that this decreases prices for FBS buy games. If anything this opens up further spots for potential D2 call-ups. There is less complaints with the NCAA tournament at 68 and NIT at 32. About the only thing that could unbalance things would be probably a minor change to the NET numbers. I'd argue more teams could be added to each tier with further D1 expansion. Basically the current top tier 2 school from last NET would be the last tier 1 school and so forth. Any changes to the NET benefits the better conferences by making the worst teams look better.

Much much worse than what CUSA currently has. $50,000 a team if they’re lucky.

It won't be good, that's for sure. But especially for NMSU and Liberty, its an extra source of revenue, not to mention whatever football money comes to the conference.

The best hope is that some network wants to establish a good relationship with the conference. Maybe to lock them in a low rate in case it becomes something later on, maybe because some basketball might be worth something to air, maybe because of some specific teams, maybe to ensure their network has at least some sports to air, or as a backup to their other offerings.

As an NMSU fan, I'm definitely looking long term, and not for anything immediate because our football just isn't good. I'm looking at it thru basketball eyes primarily, if this news is indeed true.

And FIU/Liberty, I suppose, unless the 10th add is closer to either of them than to JSU.

NMSU, UTEP, Sam Houston, Louisiana Tech, Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky, Liberty, Chattanooga, FIU + non-FB UTA and Little Rock. 9 football schools and 11 basketball members, allowing a 20 game schedule.

...is Kennesaw State a viable option? Near the ATL, and is an R2 designation - over 40,000 enrollment. Not sure of their endowment/budget, but should be able to make it work... would seem to be a good 'bridge' between FIU, JXST, Liberty, and ChattVegas (yeah, I'm starting that one up... 03-lmfao04-rock)

Not anywhere near ready.

I agree. And these FCS adds hurt the existing G5 and further separate them from the P5.

Both the MAC expansion and this one could still fall apart. The fat lady hasn't sung for either.

If report does end up being true I don't understand why liberty would make this move. We are better off as an independent in football and making annual trips to the ncaa tournament in basketball. While this new c-usa will likely still be better than the sunbelt at basketball they are still one bid leagues most years. Our 2025 and later football schedules all have home games against regional P5s so it's not like we are still struggling to schedule games like we were when we just moved to fbs. Disappointed

As much as it’s great seeing Utah and BYU in a P5 now. They haven’t necessarily done anything of REAL significance since leaving the MWC besides Utah getting their ass kicked in 2019 to Oregon.

My point is that it’s a travesty that the G5 have no access to the playoffs under an 8 or 12 team format.

I’ve always liked the 5-1-2 system but Notre Dame and SEC have to whine about it. So 6-6 it is I guess.

When is Utah Valley getting a football team? I see the school finally finished the pedestrian bridge across I-15 to some student housing west of the freeway. Looks pretty cool. I drove through there last weekend for a wedding. My wife and I have friends in Orem.

w/ 12 the top G5 will get in. They can always get 3 sub divisions of football for D-I if they don't want to deal w/ us. At that point we should all(g5) just be FCS because no one would give any of us a deal much more than random fcs gms on espn get now.

I worked in Tark's office and we heard BYU, Utah didn't want to play with all these schools and the only way Fresno would be invited is if we got rid of Tark asap. His suing the NCAA for shady stuff that went on w/ him at UNLV and his second chance recruits. We wouldn't get rid of him because he was going to get us our on campus bball arena, which he did. So if AFA was in charge that's news to me. Who was the 5? I thought it was UU, BYU, AFA, CSU, Wyo.

Quote:My point is that it’s a travesty that the G5 have no access to the playoffs under an 8 or 12 team format.

In a 12-team playoff -- the top G5 will have a guaranteed spot, IMO.

There's 12 teams in the NY/BCS bowls. Top G5 is an auto-qualifier right now.

All that'd change as far as teams are concerned:

- Instead of the Top 4 teams in the country having their own playoff, they instead get a bye in the full-blown actual playoff
- No conference / NY-bowl setups anymore -- replaced by probably max # of teams from a conference to get in (not that much different in the end)
- Less $$ made if losing in the 1st non-bowl round VS going to a big $$ NY bowl

For an 8-team playoff, I think the Top G5 could make it without it being some rarity -- even with Cinci/UCF/Houston going to the B12.

I don't think it's going 8-teams though. 12 makes way more sense. NFL has an extra reg-season, so we get an extra week before conflicting with NFL Playoffs.

But with 8 teams, the main goal is to ensure all P5 Champs make it in. OK. Add a Top G5, and that's only 2 left -- well, yeah, not guaranteed.

But I think if they ENSURE a P5 Champ getting in, they'll pretty much have to Lean on a G5 Champ getting in -- you can't preach the reason for expansion being for Conf Champs always Needing a chance, when, well, you push out G5 Champs too harshly. So something like top G5 Champ needing to be Ranked in Top 16. People against this, when you have someone like WMU or NIU years ago being "it" at #15 -- the retort would be "it gives the #1 team in the country the reward of an easy layup earned, like in the NCAA tourney. And sometimes the P12 or B12 Champ will be solidly below #8 in the country too when the underdog wins their champ game."

Thats just like, your opinion man.
yeah and I'm pretty damn sure it would end up being reality. No more UMBC over UVa, no more VCU, GMU, Wichita St., Butler to the Final 4. Gonzaga would be what? Bball only Indy school in the Not NCAA tourney? As for the P5 they could have left already if it mattered so much. NCAA got its legs chopped off w/ the NIL passing.

No. Just wish they would split if they’re not going to cut off the G5 from having any playoff hopes. Not sure what the hell you’re talking about airport 5.
airport meeting that created the MWC, led by BYU and Utah

Are you sure Air Force wasn't a leader in that because they certainly were a leader in teams considering the AAC recently?
I worked in Tark's office and we heard BYU, Utah didn't want to play with all these schools and the only way Fresno would be invited is if we got rid of Tark asap. His suing the NCAA for shady stuff that went on w/ him at UNLV and his second chance recruits. We wouldn't get rid of him because he was going to get us our on campus bball arena, which he did. So if AFA was in charge that's news to me. Who was the 5? I thought it was UU, BYU, AFA, CSU, Wyo.

That's right, but I'm not sold on who was the definitive leader there. Those five, of course, added UNLV, San Diego State, and New Mexico to secure the eight full members needed for a new conference.

well according to us it was BYU and Utah. That's where we pointed the finger. The only time I heard the other schools names was when they said there were 5. I'm sure they were all in w/ the thinking even if it was BYU or Utah. But if AFA wanted more exposure and Texas they should have loved the WAC 16. it had Tx and La. and Hawaii lol
