Also gotta think another TX school (ACU or SFA) for the west to get to 10 assuming Missouri St. is out and MT/WKU to the MAC.

It would be very funny if CUSA responded to the anticipated MTSU/WKU moves by creating new in-state FBS recruiting competition for both. Wouldn't stop decision that the two ultimately make, but still funny.

Wku and mtsu likely were aware of the candidates because they haven’t left yet. If there were in state applicants, and they were blocked, thee applicants will be reconsidered after wku and mtsu leave.

He agrees with you. He's making fun of the countless pointless speculation that C-USA would dissolve, when it would only help the teams leaving. Anyone who knows how this stuff works knows that was never going to happen. But unfortunately a lot of the people here didn't actually care what UTEP/LT/FIU would think about the situation, or care enough to know the actual rules.

If true, this gives C-USA some breathing room. They probably need another 3 to be safe.

The funniest thing about the "dissolve the conference" schemes is that the AAC almost certainly wouldn't allow their new members in until their own departing schools left, so the 6 AAC-bound schools would be voting to make themselves all-sports independents for a season.

This has been said a million times, but departing members don't get a vote in conference matters after they declare they are leaving.

If everybody leaves, who gets to vote?04-cheers

Who gets the money? Lol

Good on 'em. I didn't think Liberty would be in C-USA, but it's a strong add. I don't think the call-ups from FCS are finished though—clearly not if the stories about WKU & MTSU to the MAC are true.

I'm really, really hoping that EKU is one of those teams.

This seems to be eluding some, and not to step on any toes, but for what it's worth...

If programs exit by Aug 2023... and that may or may not be practical... CUSA football won't technically exist for that season unless they are able to coax all 5 FBS indys to join, making 8. The FCS schools they may add shortly will be meeting the annual June deadline for application to move up, and the NCAA manual explicitly says they cannot be reclassified until the August two years after that deadline... meaning, August 2024.

(Someone raised the fact that the manual also allows for an exception, but that exception also is explicit to one situation, ie, that a given school that had been FBS would fail to meet the requirements for the number of sports sponsored.)

That said, CUSA as a full-fledged FBS football conference still would be able to return for 2024... as far as I've been able to find, anyhow, there is no football penalty for skipping a year.

Have to think 3-5 schools out some of the other ASUN FCS institutions - Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama, Austin Peay, and Kennesaw State - followed by Missouri State, another WAC Texas school, Chattanooga, and maybe UMass FB-only.

Uh, if they announce before July 1, 2022 this is their schedule:

2022: Transition year 1, FCS
2023: Transition year 2, FBS (not bowl eligible)
2024: Transition completed, full FBS

So if they announce before July 1, 2022 then they will be counted as an FBS game in 2023 and C-USA will still have football.

I am happy New Mexico State found a conference. I hope WKU & MTSU stay.

Ncaa waivers have been used for membership issues before. This situation is different but the SBC had a similar situation around 2013 or so.

If all the departing programs leave after 22 and all the new programs start in 23 and they have less than 8 fbs, the 2 years grace period starts and last till the 25 season. CUSA should be compliant then.

It seems like CUSA could get support for legislation for an additional exception/waiver from the Sun Belt and from the American if they are reasonable in negotiating the exit fees for the 11 departing schools.

If they need 8 members to formally survive, can they take the non-football schools from the Sun (ALR / UTA) and UMass / UConn as FB only?

So they do need at least one more full FB-playing member. They could also serve as a decent landing spot for UTA and UALR. Potential travel partners:

Jacksonville State/?
Little Rock/Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State/UTEP
Sam Houston/Texas-Arlington

And FIU/Liberty, I suppose, unless the 10th add is closer to either of them than to JSU.

If true - good for New Mexico St. They are a good BB program and near UTEP - makes so much sense.
