Okay, I don't want to be that guy. Like I was in an earlier post.
So what do each of y'all hate to be called or referred to and what is your preference?

Okay so what are the Rules for referring to you school
Old Dominion, ODU, better-than-JMU are all common

We need a pinned thread on preferred names/abbreviations.

Georgia Southern or GS, can't be just Eagles anymore.

For a hot minute there was a very fierce battle over the GSU name.
GaSt typically uses that here.

This is not only true, but written into our charter.

I interpret GSU as Georgia State and GS as Georgia Southern every time. I don't know how it got formalized that easily and broadly but I'm glad it happened.

I probably wouldn't really say we have that issue like some do, but you definitely won't ever upset anyone if you stick to saying JMU. I've seen a few people occasionally get a little irked by anyone saying "Madison" instead of JMU or James Madison, but I don't really get that... We used to have "MADISON" across the front of our jerseys and personally I like that but I'm probably in the minority there. It does bug me when ESPN or any other network puts "J. Madison" or anything along those lines on the scoreboard instead of JMU but that's something you see from streams and TV broadcasts rather than from fans.

As for our rivals we're being reunited with, they prefer either ODUh, Old Dirty University, Old Dumb University, or "Old, Dumb, and Ugly".

For us it’s Louisiana or UL or ULL. I guess La would be ok and I think that’s the best but no one uses it. ULM for Monroe.

The best thing you can remember about the La schools is:

1. If you’re using a hyphen STOP immediately
2. If you’re using a city STOP immediately

If you follow those 2 simple rules chances are u won’t be wrong.

Some posters also refer to Georgia Southern as just Southern or the Real-GSU but that's less common.

Texas State can be referred to as Texas State, TXST, TxState, or Harvard of the Hill Country.

Never call us TSU (Texas Southern University) or Texas State University-San Marcos (we are the only Texas State).

Southwest Texas or SWT can be a term of endearment or an insult depending on the context clues.

I'm one of the App fans that don't hate Appy or Appy State. I used to say "I'm back off to Happy Appy" when leaving home to go back to school.

I used that once. The dude that responded seemed genuinely pissed. Haven't done it again.

Hey stink bugs. Do y'all like or hate "GaSo" when talking about that place?

- Southern Miss or USM
- NOT SMU or Ole Miss
- not Southern as that could be the SWAC school
- So Miss or S Miss is sometimes used for TV but not our preferred

We don't refer to ourselves as ASU, to be clear. ASU is in Arizona. App is in North Carolina.

I use GAST for Georgia State. Takes the confusion completely out of it. If we can’t be GSU neither can they 04-cheers
