GSU has stayed good fairly consistently, so I am thinking the two of us will have a lot of good battles. Marshall, USA and JMU can have good teams on occasion as well.
The philosophical question of the day: did the basketball program drop to CUSA level after leaving CAA? I think I saw somewhere that JJ has a .750 ish winning percentage in conference play. I know we measure everything by titles but I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be the same if not better in SBC now that we will be on real TV again.
That CUSA brought MBB down is largely a myth.
For some posters on this board, expectations are higher than warranted and so is the entitlement.
See for yourself;
Tom Young 1985-1991 (SBC) 90-87 (
508) in 6 seasons with 2 post season appearances two losing seasons
Oliver Purnell 1991-1994 (CAA) 57-23 (
715) in three seasons with 3 post season appearances all three winning seasons
Jeff Capel 1994-2001(CAA) went 122-98 (
554) with 3 post season appearances in 7 years, including 3 losing seasons.
Blaine Taylor 2001-2013 (CAA) 242-149 (
618) in 11 years with 8 post season appearances, including 3 losing seasons.
JJ 2013-present (CUSA 130-75 (
634) in 7 seasons with 4 post season appearances and no losing seasons.
We have advanced in the NCAAT three times; 1986, 1995, and 2010. We have never gone past the second round for total NCAAT w/l of 3-12
I DO think that the incrreased television availability in the SBC will help with MBB recruiting going forward.
