I’m still waiting for 4 quarters of good football. I almost don’t care if we win. I want to see a complete team. Offense and defense. Winning ugly is great. But I don’t want to go through the misery of the Childers offense again because our QB couldn’t pass.
Just maybe when they actually do run it, it'll be a surprise.
Your most revealing statement: "I almost don't care if we win. I want to see a complete team."
Boo hoo! People in hell want ice water. We were 0-6 last year, we've got mainly underclassmen starting on offense and defense; I'll take winning ugly and judging by a lot of other comments, so will some other Huskie fans.
I agree 100%.

He’s a bad passing QB. That’s not just an opinion, the stats seem to indicate he can’t pass and never really could.
Have you actually watched all the games this year?
Are you kidding? In what bull**** world is he even an “average” passer.
Watch the games. He misses all the time. When he hits guys he throws the ball late. He overthrows deep, and his passes to the field side go god knows where.
Have you seen any of the games this year? He has major limitations. He can’t pass.
Disagree. Sure he’s not lighting the world on fire like Tom Brady but he has been absolutely fine. They’ve been committed to the run which is obvious that we have a good running attack. Throw when you have to. He has hit some passes and has missed some- like literally all quarterbacks do. You also have to keep in mind this is a first year player in the program playing with a new offense and teammates. It takes time to gel. not to mention tonight, we were missing sure-handed Cole Tucker.
Big Chilla, chilllll.
Enjoy the W. THE HARD WAY
No. By most measurable stats he has been bad. Not average, bad.
The facts are the facts. He is a bad passer. Borderline awful passer.
It’s not a secret anymore and the team will be in trouble, he is what he is. My question is how many games down the road does having a bad passer cost us? More or less than we gain with his leadership and running? Honest question there. Hammock obviously believes it’s a net gain, and a greater net gain than any back up.
They've played 5 games.
I'm not sure when football stats stabilize but I'm guessing 5 games (with one being in an un-winnable situation like the Big House) isn't enough to make a definitive statement on his true ability.

Harnish was a decent passer but lets not kid ourselves into think Lynch was a good passer.
What made Lynch great was his running ability which was such a threat, it opened up passing options.
But if he couldn't run, he was.....maaaaaaaybe....an average passer.
Which is exactly why he was never considered as a QB in the NFL.

Any idea on attendance?
It may be the record low homecoming crowd in the past 20 years.
I bet half the season ticket holders were missing around us.

What's hilarious is we have people declaring Lombardi is a bust after 5 games and are also comparing Antario Brown to Michael Turner after a half of football against Eastern Michigan in a game where our O-Line completely dominated the line of scrimmage.

They're going to count the attendance at kickoff.

Official website books attendance at 10,034. Threat of bad weather probably cut Homecoming crowd by a few thousand. Then actual weather trashed it. Can't be helped.
Agree with uiniu57 and Big Red about Lombardi. Remember that 2-point conversion vs GT. And he scored the first TD in this one. Also, some critics forget he's out there because the coaches and -- most important -- fellow players trust him to manage the offense and give a young team some confidence and stability. Success with The Hard Way is not a straight line but a zig-zag.
There ... I got my 2 cents in.

Lynch was a way better passer than Lombardi has been so far. Not great but pretty good. And pretty good is not good enough for the NFL.

Where has anyone said bust? You literally made up an argument to fight against.
He’s a bad passer. That statement isn’t wrong by any measure.

This is correct. I would say lunch was an average college passer. Not anywhere near good enough for the NFL. But the net gain in wins provided by his legs was huge.

Lombardi has thrown as many passes as Ryan Graham and Anthony Maddie COMBINED. He’s probably 2-3 games away from his 500th career attempt. Bowers had 499 as a Huskie. Hare had 650 career attempts. What you see at this point is probably what you get.
Bowers stats at both schools:
School….. Com att. %.. Yds...Td. Int. Rating
California 280 478 58.6 3095 18 12 120.4
Northern. 289 499 57.9 3495 17 10 124.0
Lombardi stats last year at MSU and so far at NIU:
Schools com/att %. Yds. Y/A. Td/int. Rating
MSU ‘20 84 157 53.5 1090 6.9 8 9 117.2
NIU. ‘21 65 114 57.0 0781 6.9. 5 5 120.3
If you’re looking for a big improvement it’s probably not likely. Not impossible, but I just think guys are who they are MOST of the time. So it’s now up to the coaches to find how to use Lombardis strengths and minimize his weakness while still having a legit passing attack.

Rocky is not good but I would be really surprised if he gets benched. I don’t think they’re going to burn Hampton’s redshirt.
Will be interesting to see what happens in the off-season though.

It would have been nice if Ross Bowers chose to come back. He would be playing behind a better team than last season. But I understand he had a family he needed to provide for and move on.

Lombardi needs to be a duel threat in conference play. I think he can handle it playing in the MAC now, and okay to avoid some big contact sliding, based on the situation.
I still feel he could turn out pretty good for us. EMU game yesterday was concerning as clearly he missed a lot of throws, some not even close.
To me, his passing overall looked decent against Maine, Wyoming & GT. Michigan was what it was all around.
Either way he needs to play better if we are going to beat Toledo.

No way DC can watch that tape and not realize to continue approach he started game with (I hope anyhow LOL). Waylee assuming injury is not bad, Brown & Ratdog could be a hell of a backfield. I still think Lombardi will be good for us. Tough game for him obviously, we will see…
Hammock just mentioned (slipped?) that another RB will be ready next week. First, I hope that doesn’t mean that Waylee is out. Second, I’m excited to see who it is he’s referring to.
Empty the stables. Trot out all the stallions. Let’s ground-and-pound the MAC into submission. Any illusions of a high-flying passing attack can be comfortably put to rest.
Lot of options he could be talking about. Seems like the approach is to give each of the guys not named Waylee and Rat a couple games each so that they all get reps but none lose their RS. So could be Collins, or Chapman. Could be another of the tr fr. We'll see!!
Remind me again of what would disqualify a player from getting a redshirt year?
I always forget.
They can play in 4 games and maintain their RS. That is what makes me think he is going to rotate the youngsters, cuz it was Ducker behind Waylee and Rat prior to Saturday, then it was Brown... I mentioned this to a friend and he made an additional really good point...Rotating which guy(s) are going play behind the main guys also gives the player whose "turn" it is a more stable expectation as well as more consistent touches during that span. Much better option to tell a guy that the next few weeks they are the 3rd back, so they can be ready, and much better to give a guy 5-6 touches in each of those games, than 5-6 guys getting a single touch.
I could be mistaken and it's just a coincidence that it has played out this way so far, but we shall see.

I think like most fan-basses, especially here, a lot of you over react lol. Hammock and the coaches see the players everyday. The best players are playing. Sure we can see improvement by most players including Rocky.

If the coaches see Rocky everyday then they know he isn’t very accurate. So maybe it’s improvement from the coaches we are looking for more than the players. No different than Nagy/Trubisky. Mitch was a limited player but Nagy never adjusted. Is there something Hammock can do to help Rocky be his best?
