i'd very much be in favor of running him more. He's not Jordan Lynch (but who is?) but he's as big as most MAC linebackers and is fast and instinctive enough.

It forces the D to consider it and maybe opens up the receivers.

They have a lot of success with rolling Lombardi out and giving him the run-pass option. He does well throwing the ball on the run.

That was kinda the deal with Maddie. Not a good pocket passer but was a great athlete. Rolled him out and good things happened.

If I were to guess, I'd bet Hammock is targeting next year as the year they compete for the conference title anyway.

Hasn't Lombardi won two MAC West offensive player of the week awards in the first 4 weeks lol?

People already want to bench him.
We have some reactionary mofos posting here.

They guy on the bench is always better.

Must be a lot of Bears fans on here who always want to bench the QB. Then the backup QB Fields goes out and throws only 60 yards and is sacked 8 times??

He legit cannot pass. That’s an issue.

He’s a bad passing QB. That’s not just an opinion, the stats seem to indicate he can’t pass and never really could.

Have you actually watched all the games this year?

Watch the games. He misses all the time. When he hits guys he throws the ball late. He overthrows deep, and his passes to the field side go god knows where.

Have you seen any of the games this year? He has major limitations. He can’t pass.

How about this kid Antario Brown! Wow, what an incredible college debut. This is a true freshman that hasn’t gotten a carry all season long. Obviously we know about his pedigree and being a highly rated recruit, but to be able to step up like that with Waylee going down and after a long weather delay was special. Not to mention he ran the ball dang well. Good for him. Like Hammock said after the game, the depth of the team he has put together is a strength and they’re only going to improve. This is still a very YOUNG team, albeit talented. Happy for the win. Happy for the guys. Trust the process. Enjoy !

Disagree. Sure he’s not lighting the world on fire like Tom Brady but he has been absolutely fine. They’ve been committed to the run which is obvious that we have a good running attack. Throw when you have to. He has hit some passes and has missed some- like literally all quarterbacks do. You also have to keep in mind this is a first year player in the program playing with a new offense and teammates. It takes time to gel. not to mention tonight, we were missing sure-handed Cole Tucker.

Big Chilla, chilllll.

Enjoy the W. THE HARD WAY

Empty the stables. Trot out all the stallions. Let’s ground-and-pound the MAC into submission. Any illusions of a high-flying passing attack can be comfortably put to rest.

Amen brother. ground and pound IS NIU FOOTBALL. We have a good O line, and a stable of running backs. People crying about Lombardi are delusional. He’s doing his job just fine. We are a running team.Smack you in the mouth at the line of scrimmage and fight for yards. Tonight was a great win. Love this squad

Saw Trey on those fake Jet Sweeps. Why did we run a bunch of fake jet sweeps but never run the jet sweep? Just once?

You don't suppose it's to give future opponents something to think about when they're breaking down formations and plays?
So sorry Rabid Squirrel and TXHuskieJA26 that you guys had to tolerate another undeserved Huskie win. For Christ's sake what is wrong with winning ugly or for once, having the bounces / breaks go your way?

I wasn't complaining????? The jet sweep thing was a joke...Damn. Pretty sure I'm one of the most positive and supportive people on this board lol. I'm always the one trying to calm people down when they are doubting players and staff. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to make a joke (that btw if that came true I would come back and claim the world's most amazing prediction). If you want a real answer...They do the jet sweep motion to show the qb if it is man or zone, as well as they also convert that motion into a cross block to seal the backside of the run at times as well.

I think maybe this would be more of an option if the next 2 guys weren't a 2nd year freshman who is also a work in progress as far as passing, and a true freshman who didn't even play a SR year in HS. As it stands now, I would keep him on the field and hope he works through it, like he did today making 2 really big throws at the end.

Lot of options he could be talking about. Seems like the approach is to give each of the guys not named Waylee and Rat a couple games each so that they all get reps but none lose their RS. So could be Collins, or Chapman. Could be another of the tr fr. We'll see!!

Where was Jay Ducker? Could be him...he was getting a few touches here and there early on without much production. He’s still a super young, extremely talented back that was highly touted. Maybe he was banged up this week and they’re ready to give him some more looks in conference play as well. regardless of who he’s referring to- this is such a nice “problem” to have. We have a stable of very talented and uniquely skilled running backs. Things are going in the right direction.

I’m still waiting for 4 quarters of good football. I almost don’t care if we win. I want to see a complete team. Offense and defense. Winning ugly is great. But I don’t want to go through the misery of the Childers offense again because our QB couldn’t pass.

Just maybe when they actually do run it, it'll be a surprise.
Your most revealing statement: "I almost don't care if we win. I want to see a complete team."
Boo hoo! People in hell want ice water. We were 0-6 last year, we've got mainly underclassmen starting on offense and defense; I'll take winning ugly and judging by a lot of other comments, so will some other Huskie fans.

No. By most measurable stats he has been bad. Not average, bad.

The facts are the facts. He is a bad passer. Borderline awful passer.

It’s not a secret anymore and the team will be in trouble, he is what he is. My question is how many games down the road does having a bad passer cost us? More or less than we gain with his leadership and running? Honest question there. Hammock obviously believes it’s a net gain, and a greater net gain than any back up.

Even Alabama fans are nitpicking today’s blow out win so let’s not start calling people out for not being happy with Rocky. I think everyone would agree he missed too many wide open throws that would have made today’s win a lot more comfortable. He’s going to have to be able to make those throws if we are to compete at the levels we enjoyed in the Harnish and Lynch days. But glad to see the defensive coaches dialed up more blitzes and man coverage. Need to to still utilize the pressure even if we are up two scores. Super excited about Brown. The kid is on par with Turner the Burner.

The speed Dillon Thomas added to the linebackers is a huge difference.

The delayed rush he brings when the back stays in actually causes mayhem thanks to his speed.

i'd very much be in favor of running him more.

I agree.

Defenses have to respect him when he runs or rolls out. He's a threat to tuck it and run so it can open things up.
