(09-21-2021 01:17 PM)FirstandGoal Wrote:  Let's get back to the thread title "Should the conference (WAC) do anything if NMSU gets grabbed by the MWC" or any other FBS conference for that matter. That answer is much different than might NMSU get invited to a FBS conference. If NMSU were to leave then the WAC would be at twelve schools with eight FCS football teams assuming UTRGV does add football. With eight football schools and four non-football it would not be important to add one school to replace them but it might still be worth adding two more football schools for the long term stability of the conference if you think there is a possibility of another football school leaving in the near future. If I were on the conference committee, I would be satisfied with the twelve left and picky toward who the WAC might add.

The premise is that New Mexico State could be added as an all-sports member to a current FBS conference if the conditions are right. What you are discussing is in line with the official WAC Expansion topic that no one is allowed to comment in unless they are discussing schools that the WAC could add. That's why I brought my thoughts and findings to this topic and quit posting in that WAC expansion topic.

You are only allowed to specifically answer the question laid out in the title thread. Anything else and the discussion will be killed. Unless you’re Sammy H and are on another horse paste induced rant.

On the main board someone post the link to all the FBS schools winning percent. We're ahead of UTEP, and UNLV, while behind UNM by a little.

UTEP isn't really winning now either. I hadn't realized they were even worse than us historically!

UNM, UTEP and NMSU all suffer from the same handicap- Recruiting. There aren’t many blue chip football prospects to be found in the region, if any. Texas is a recruiting hotbed but blue chip recruits are concentrated in central and East Texas, far removed from El Paso. Recruiting is even more of a challenge in New Mexico.

Whereas many FBS schools can walk out their doorstep to find good recruits just a stones throw away, NMSU, UTEP, and UNM have use a good portion of their football budget on recruiting.

Like Todor says, we won’t be here long. And thank goodness, I don’t want to be playing schools like Seattle, For Profit and UNM junior very long. Hopefully when we leave, the WAC won’t fall apart as a result. For your sake!

Tough talk for someone who's been playing freakin' Houston BAPTIST and Northwestern STATE 03-lmfao03-lmfao:

I'm not predicting you will leave because SH is better, its because its clearly lost and wandering around lost looking for playmates.

Maybe you haven’t realized, I guess I haven’t been clear! To be completely fair, it’s not like I EVER complain about the WAC. SHSU fans don’t want to be here and would rather us play Houston Baptist and Northwestern State. So imagine how appealing the WACk is!

We had the opportunity to join a GOOD conference, the ASUN. But SFA didn’t get an invite, and our AD has no backbone.

Fair enough. You two schools really are joined at the hip. Not making jokes, just observing. It can be a nice strength, but when an AD (or whoever) wants to stay close, it can definitely hold one back for the sake of sticking together.

I think the divorce will be quite amicable with all parties eagerly moving on on new directions.

So, if SHSU and SFA are brothers, I feel like Lamar might be a step brother or cousin. And that would make Abilene the out of town cousin who happened to be visiting so you invited them along on the WAC road trip too because they were there and could chip in for gas.

But yeah, if NMSU were gone, the rest of the non-Texas 4 might be wishing they still had Chicago State as a number. I'm guessing if numbers were needed in a post NMSU WAC, Augustana isn't going anywhere else without a Summit invite. Give them a call I guess.

Get it through your head Sammy. Your school is in the WAC. Crying it isn’t going to reverse time. If that were true I’d take ten years off my life every time I took a shower.

While the WCC is currently seen as a better athletic and academic conference than the WAC, I would be very shocked if GCU went to the WCC even if they were offered (which I do not think they will be). Why go to a conference that is predominantly in California? GCU would rather have a larger footprint in order to attract more students. With the addition of the Texas 4, GCU's marketing department is probably salivating over the new recruitment possibilities.
Most schools seem to want a smaller footprint to lower travel costs. GCU does not think like this. This is why the WAC is more attractive to GCU than the WCC.

Highly doubtful NMSU is leaving. SBC/C-USA/AAC are heavily concentrated in the east and the Aggies do absolutely nothing ( beneficial) for any of them. The MWC, especially UNM want nothing to do with them either. The WAC going FBS is the only hope for NMSU getting into a FBS Conference.

I don't think Grand Canyon would turn down seeing Gonzaga or St. Mary's in their basketball arena every year. Grand Canyon has over 30,000 on-campus students and over 90,000 online students. I don't think they are struggling to get their name out. Where they may struggle is convincing people that they are no longer a for-profit university, and they are not another University of Phoenix-type of school.

Wrong.

Isn't the real reason to prefer the WAC over WCC what we just saw this last March? A realistic shot each year at going to the tournament.

I'd say before the FCS schools joined the WAC totally agree now GCU would more than likely prefer to be with schools that don't have football.
