I think it was the basketball coach. I think he told a fan he had heard the Atlantic 10 rumor. My guess is, the coach reads the message boards like the rest of us?

Got it, thanks

Marshall, ODU and Charlotte to the A10, the rest of you split to God knows where. Best of luck.

First Ive heard of the Marshall to the A10 plan too. It always included ODU and Charlotte. Glad to bring Marshall along too. Especially if they are part of the rumored Football Indy Alliance with Army, UConn, UMass, Liberty, ODU and Charlotte.

Great offer but no one in the new east conference will be willing to travel all the way across the Gobi desert with no water to get to El Paso. 04-cheers

Twitter say (Herd acct) that the UCONN AD said that there is talk about an eastern fb conference with UCONN, UMASS, Liberty, Army, Marshall and ODU as the core with Marshall and ODU parking their other sports in the A10. That sounds like a football only conference and not a CUSA split.

Highlight from the article he was referencing. I don't think specific teams were mentioned in the article-

https://www.nhregister.com/uconn/article...355288.php

> But Benedict does see potential for Randy Edsall’s program to, in one way or another, eventually partner with a group of programs as opportunities arise and the college landscape takes shape.

“I still think there’s a place down the road, and with what’s happening, for a larger group of independent football programs,” Benedict said. “Why can’t we have a group of independents form an independent conference and have bowl tie-ins? You never go to sleep on that stuff. You have to be constantly thinking and talking to people and checking the pulse. I’m hopeful that there’s going to be more opportunity down the road relative to that situation.

“I really do believe that football can and should be treated differently. Because it just doesn’t make sense anymore to have a football program determine where all the other sports play, geographically. And as we know, there are a lot of universities that are in conferences that don’t make sense, geographically.”

Makes a lot of sense.

RE: Another report of Marshall pushing for a CUSA split...
It makes perfect sense. Ive heard very similar reports in the past, but the main differences were it included Charlotte instead of Marshall, and its not a FBS conference because "conferences" have to schedule other sports than football. So it is a "scheduling alliance" where we would all agree to play each other annually as if we were in a conference. No offense to any other teams, but Id welcome this with great excitement for no other reason than to be back with our rivals in a high quality regionally accessible basketball league. Would love to have Marshall (and UNCC for that matter) along for the ride. I thought this plan had died, so the fact that Marshall is talking about it makes me hopeful again.

Wonder if it could get a waiver as a conference if none of the conferences our Olympic sports are in sponsor FBS football?

Sounds like Benedict is at least planting the seeds for a quasi-conference.

It would have to function just like a conference, but have only football for Marshall to have interest. It must have bowl bids, a media deal, and, hopefully, a conference championship game.

This plus the A10 is a dream for Marshall fans. Can the A10 add enough? The football only league needs more teams.

Soon the A10 will be the A22 and no they can't just kick out some of their weak teams to make room for others. Fourteen teams currently.

The A10 could add 2 and be fine. Marshall and ODU seem to be the ones pushing for it. 16 is not a terrible number but probably wouldn't want to be much bigger. If an opportunity like this was available in the Southwest, I would want UTEP to jump on it.

What does Marshall add in value to the A-10?

On the other end how is this going to save Marshall money on travel? It's going to cost a school twice, maybe three times as much money to travel to Umass and Rhode Island than FIU and FAU.

Dayton is their only drivable game @3 hours and I believe one other around 5 hours. The others are 6.5 to 10 hours away.

Any Marshall fan complaining about wanting in a regional conference and picks the A-10 and Indy in football...

dont know how to read a map

The big question is would any CFP money flow to the Indy alliance teams at all? Bowls and media would probably be fine or at least no worse.

Indy's do get a share but smaller than conference members.

There was once a DONE DEAL that had Marshall in CUSA 1.1 with Marshall parking all other sports the Horizon Conference, problem with that rumor, no one bothered to tell the Horizon Conference and that rumor died quickly.

Actually it was done until the Horizon heard about President Dan Angel saying we wouldn't be in the Horizon long and would get all sports in C-USA. The offer to the Horizon was then rescinded.

Maybe multiple NCAA bids foots the bill for some extra travel. It's only about 10-12 hours to Mass by car. I've done it many times. And UConn is closer than that. You spend most of the day getting through Pennsylvania, which is huge, diagonally. And we played in a conference with Buffalo for years, so we're used to going north. It's not that bad and it's still Eastern based. I mean Marshall to UConn is closer than Cincy to UConn was. Either way, it's a quick charter up, most likely.

And you’d save a fortune in travel for all the other sports.
