RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
I also think transferring because of a coaching change is one of the most understandable reasons to transfer.

Checking Kaiden Rice’s profile, as is my wont while we wait for his decision, I saw that DoBO Bollinger has started following him.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
How about 6’6 Penn grad transfer Eddie Scott? He held an offer from Shaver’s staff; I remember he committed to Penn a day after Loewe took WM’s last available scholarship and I always wondered if Scott was seriously looking at WM but had to pivot once that last schollie was taken. On the current staff, Kemp has followed him in the past and I see DoBO Bollinger in his recent followers. Also Scott and Tyler Hamilton overlapped at Penn. Since entering the transfer portal Scott has received offers from St Bonaventure, Marist, and Binghamton.

CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Saw Ryan Odum is leaving UMBC for Utah State. Curious to see if there is a mass exodus out of that program. Will LJ Owens go to 3rd school?

Coach Howland has started following 6’7 rising RS JR Madut Akec formerly of USF. Akec had a Winthrop offer when he was in HS back when Howland was at Winthrop.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
The entire transfer portal has become somewhat of a farce.Just over the weekend the U of Cincinnati's entire four-man freshman class of this season entered the transfer portal!

It's not unusual now to see players who have played on three or four teams which lets us know just how much the individual university means to these guys. I wonder if some of them in their disjointed education even know what
college for whom they're playing. A bunch of vagabond basketball player is what they are.

Some kind of reorganizing of the transfer rules is needed.

Cincinnati's coach, John Brennan, has been placed on paid leave and is undergoing an investigation into his program. They also had an assistant coach quit. We don't have all the details, but there seems to be something rotten with the head coach that is causing players to transfer.

This is a wild exaggeration. It is very unusual to see players who have played on three or four teams.

Also, the transfer portal is in its 3rd year. Blaming rules that have been in place for under 3 years for players playing for 3+ teams means the new rules aren't the cause. The volume of players that want to transfer has not changed, but now they have a means by which to be contacted about finding a better place for themselves.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
3 teams isn't wildly uncommon (though it's still far from common), but it's more because of the grad transfer rules - player transfers once in undergrad, then uses the grad transfer (eg, Milon went BC -> WM undergrad, then a grad year at UCF).

I don't know of any players who have played for 4 teams offhand, not to say it hasn't happened. I would guess the most likely route would be JuCo -> NCAA team -> Undergrad Transfer -> Grad transfer, if we count a Juco team as one of the four teams.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
My hope is that we reach some sort of natural equilibrium where coaches have to prioritize keeping recruits on campus for more than one year and are less inclined to sell them false narratives in HS recruiting. I'm just not sure we actually get there.

Madut Akec just followed back Coach Howland.

I haven’t found a college highlight reel for Akec but there is a clip of all he did in one game against Tulane as a RS FR. USF is in green and Akec is #22.

Coach Howland and 6’7 grad transfer Brandon Carroll from Florida Southern (DII) are now following each other. Carroll, originally from Brewster, NY, spent three years at Bryant (including a red shirt year), and the past two years at Florida Southern.

https://fscmocs.com/sports/mens-basketba...rroll/3203

Jake Lieberman tweeted yesterday:

“ A source tells me that D2 transfer from Florida Southern Brandon Carroll (@bjcdos) has heard from a mix of high-major to low-major schools since entering the portal yesterday.

Averaged 16.5 PPG and shot 38% from three-point land. 6'7 guard/forward.”
